I'm Shocked!

'I am shocked. Shocked I tell you. Well not that shocked. It's just my face.' We love the colours and shading of the plumage of our juvenile Boobook Owls. We even love their permanently caffeinated wide-eyed expressions 😀🦉

The light colored irises make the pupils prominent, but they don't seem constricted which I associate with anger- and fear-type reactions. This reads calmer to me, maybe curiosity?
I agree with you. It's not puffed up or hunched and scrunched up tight, so I see no signs of nervousness. They have voluntary control over dilation, so it may just be starting intently or the photo has been brightened and it's a bit dark where it's at.
