That was the main reason I joined lemmy.ml

Though now I carry connotations of the .ml instance so if I had to do it over again I'd choose another instance.

10minutemail.net works a treat, but you won't be able to recover your account if you lose your credentials later on

No but it is trivial to use email spoof/temporary email signup sites to get the verification email. You won't need it again except for a password reset, which you're SOL on if you do it that way.

Wrong, fully possible as far as ActivityPub is concerned. Instances may (and most do) set the requirement themselves though.

YES! Simply host your own instance and you can not require an email from yourself.

Issues with spam bots. But you can just open a new email with protonmail or tutamail or others
