[Meta] Soulslike(-adjacent) Giveaway 2: Electric Boogaloo!

Edit: Please note that being subscribed to the community is a hard requirement to enter! Your comment will not be counted as an entry if you aren't subscribed.

Hey guys! As another little thank you to the community, I would like to give back to the community: I’m giving away a number of soulslikes and soulslike-adjacent titles (PC).

Here is what you can win (a choice of one per tier):

Tier 1 (1x winner):

  • Lies of P (code)
  • Enotria (code)
  • Hollow Knight (code)
  • Remnant 2 (code)

Tier 2 (2x winners):

  • The Surge 1 & 2 Dual Pack (code)
  • TUNIC (code)
  • Code Vein Deluxe Edition (code)
  • Ashen (code)
  • Steel Rising (code)
  • Nioh 1: Complete Edition (code)

Tier 3 (3x winners):

  • Blasphemous (code)
  • Blasphemous 2 (code)
  • Death's Door (code)
  • Curse of the Dead Gods (Steam Gift)
  • Tails of Iron (Steam Gift)
  • Eldest Souls (Steam Gift)

All of these games are amazing and worth an entry if you haven’t played one of them for sure! Lies of P is definitely the standout here since it’s a very quality soulslike that can compete with the big FromSoft titles easily.

The giveaway will be open from when the post is live on 17th July 2026 to Wednesday 22nd July 10 pm CET.

What you need to do to participate:

  • Post a comment here. It can be anything you want. Have you heard of the games? Why would you like to play them? Anything, really.

  • You need to be subscribed to the community at the time of entering the giveaway (no minimum amount of time being subscribed).

  • You don’t need to be a Lemmy.Zip user. However, your account needs to have been created a day before this giveaway goes live (ie. on 16th July, roughly 24h ago).

  • You need to have a Steam account and be fine with adding me on Steam, so I can gift the game to you. Alternatively, you need to keep an eye on your DMs, so I can send you a key where applicable.

  • After the giveaway ends, ie. around 10 pm CET on 22nd July, please check the post again and be in your DMs if you’re pulled as a winner.

  • No regional restrictions.

Here's how the giveaway works:

The giveaway will be handled by Zippy Bot ie. the winners will be pulled automatically. This means that at the end of the giveaway, I will lock the thread and Zippy will pull six random entries as winners. The six winners will be given a choice of a game from the specific category their name is pulled for (from top to bottom in order of names pulled).

Should you have your name pulled for a category in which you already have all the games, where applicable, you may get a game from another category, granted it is from a lower-tier category.

That should be all. Good luck to everyone!

I'm not great at a lot of the Soulslikes but there are some I really got into, like I went through Death's Door with the umbrella challenge and had fun the whole time.

Anyway, thanks for putting this together. Here's some sumo wrestlers:

2

If I can I always play souls likes as a woman. I'm perfectly comfortable as a man, but dark souls 2 stole my gender.

Mind you, I didn't know until I googled "coffin that shaves your facial hair" as before this I was playing as Mr cleans evil twin but from that point forward it's buff bald ladies first, followed by elderly ladies if I sl1 the game or its equivalent.

15

Nah there's a coffin in the game dark souls 2 that changes the player characters gender. I didn't know that's what it did until it was already done. I could have swapped back, but I thought it was fun. Played a girl since. With armour on the aesthetics are normally the same anybow.

Had no idea the female player model was quicker though. That is awesome

6

I've wanted to play souls-like, but still haven't jumped into the genre. Definitely throwing my name in the ring for this one.

13
lemmy.ml

Nice way to know some new games. I never heard of Eldest Souls, looks nice.

lemmy.zip

Not all of them are soulslikes in the strictest sense, but we apply the term loosely here in this community and allow for games to be discussed that "only" incorporate a couple soulslike mechanics here and there. From what I got, Eldest Soul is kind of a roguelike soulslike?

7

lemmy.ml

I already accept Iron Pinapple's definition of souls like: anything that has a dodge button

8
fedia.io

Hope this doesn't sound too greedy but I already have most of the games in tiers 2 and 3, so tier 1 is all I'm really interested in.

10
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

That's not greedy - you're just being transparent :)

6

Ok, glad it's not an issue. Also, thanks for doing this!

lemmy.zip

I can heartily recommend hollow knight, I've spent many an hour playing that game, it has enormous depth and lore and the art-style is really unique :)

10

HK really is a gem among indie games. There's a lot of amazing indies, but HK really stands out to me. They could have easily charged 40-70€ for Silksong and it still would have sold as well as it did. The fact that they stuck with a 20€ price tag is just such a chad move

5

It seems to be an acquired taste and a little more "budget-y" to put it nicely compared to your average AAA title. But I think @[email protected] mentioned that they liked the game quite a bit? :)

4

I enjoyed it, but it's a lower budget AA game so you gotta take it for what it is and be able to tolerate some jank. I liked the setting, the art direction, the music. Environment design is great and level design is good too. Combat can be a bit clunky but it has some interesting ideas at least with the element system, status ailments that have both positive and negative effects, active skills and hot-swappable loadouts.

I'd rather a flawed game with interesting ideas and charm than a competent but bland game that is okay at everything but doesn't excel at anything and doesn't do anything too interesting. But I think my jank tolerance is pretty high compared to most people so YMMV.

3

Enotria is not a bad game, but combat is a bit clunky at times. (Not a smooth ride like Lies of P or Khazan). Still, I finished it and had a good time with it. A souls vet such as yourself would certainly have no major problems with it, I think. :)

Also, did you finish the Lies of P DLC? Did you enjoy it?

2
lemmy.zip

Only game I’ve played listed here is Hollow Knight, but I did finish it (well, I got about 110%).

6

Daamn so close to 112. Have you played Silksong?

3

Thanks so much - what a kind thing to do!

I've really been looking forward to playing Lies of P and Tunic, so I'll be super stoked if I get either of them! :D

6
lemmy.world

Now here's a slew of games to add to my wishlist, I don't think I own a single one of these.

I have been going through with completing all the soulsborne games, and I've been having a great time, so I can only presume that I'd like most soul-adjacents too

6
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

Many are acquired tastes if you're used to the polish FromSoft put into their games. But a lot of them can hold their own amongst their peers.

What's next on your list?

3

I'm on my ng+ runs for DS3, leaving me with just DS2 and Sekiro after the fact. I've not decided which one will be tackled next yet

3

The best prize here is your friendship. 🫶

All great games. Most of them on my wishlist too. A friend recently showed me there's a Seamless Coop mod in beta for Lies of P. A fun event could be held here someday thanks to that.

5
lemmy.zip

Super interested in lots of these, especially Tunic and the Blasphemous games!

5
lemmy.zip

I've already got Hollow Knight and Death's Door. Many of the others are on my wishlist.

Very cool of you to do these giveaways.

5

i am looking for a game i can dive into for the holidays. i already thought about replaying hollow knight but playing a new one (any of the others listed here) would definetly more fun ^^ so this is my hat in the ring.

Wow, didn't expect a full table for this. This should be quite handy for people, thank you!

TUNIC is really charming. I played it for a couple hours, and it really feels like a perfect blend of Zelda and Dark Souls.

Yea, Nioh 2 is quite a bit better than Nioh 1, but it's also more expensive :P It's still a solid game.

Thanks.

Oh, I also totally forgot to thank you for doing this again!

I hope people get games they enjoy :)

Lies of P, which I got in the last giveaway, I enjoyed immensely!

2

I've wanted lies of p for a while. Good luck everyone and thanks op.

5
lemmy.zip

hk was the first hard game i actually finished most of after becoming an adult; between school and early career i really couldn't devote the dozens of hours to really get good at a skill based game so it'll always hold a special place in my heart

death's door was a little easier but had a lot of charm

might just end up buying lies of P whether i win or not!

5

Lies of P is fantastic! If you give it a try we'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

2

All of these games look amazing. The only one I have already is Blasphemous and it's next up on the playlist. Thanks for the giveaway!

4

I haven’t played a lot of souls like games. Only Deaths door. It sounds a lot like work tbh. But if there’s one with a good story, maybe it’s worth it?

4
lemmy.world

Remnant 2 is such a fantastic game. I'm glad to see it at the top

4

I can't agree more, I've got hundreds of hours in that one, the randomly selected areas and whole worlds gave me tons of incentive for more runs. I was a little frustrated at first that so many items may not be available on each run, but I changed my mind once I figured out how things worked. ("Remnant Overseer" is great for completionists like me, worth checking out if you do more than one play through)

2

I remember that hollow knight was the game that reignited my desire to play games. What an amazing game!

I hope this is the giveaway where i win something

4
lemmy.world

I’m curious, how can you tell whether or not a user is subscribed to a community?

4

On the backend we've got a website with moderation tools. In it, we have an overview of all the giveaways going on, including this one, where I get an overview of all the participants. If a name in the comments does not show up in the list of participants, they've likely not subscribed or their account is too new. The latter would be easy to see at a glance scanning the comments.

2

I really liked Another Crab's Treasure so I'm trying my luck again! =D TUNIC is a game I've been looking at =)

4

I just bought Death's door, playing it now, love it but the lack of a map is a bit annoying.

I also got Tunic and Hollow Knight already, not sure about the rest.

Anyway, still throwing my hat in just in case I can win something!

4

Blasphemous was my intro to soulslikes and I picked up Blasphemous 2 during the Summer Sale, but the rest look great!

4

I love remnant 2, but never really got into too many of the other souls like games. Tunic has been in my radar for a little while though! And lies of p.

4
sh.itjust.works

Hey, thank you very much. I am eyeing Lies of P.

The giveaway bot just DM-ed me saying I cannot enter the giveaway since I am not subscribed to the community. But I am and have been for a very long time.

Have another look at your inbox and see if you got a message

1
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

I've removed and re-added you. Anything different now?

1

Unfortunately, no. For every comment I make under this post the bot messages me saying the same thing. Please, don't bother with this anymore. I don't want you to waste your time for just one person as I don't see anybody else with the same problem. I am in a good enough financial state where I can get the games myself. I just wanted to participate in a community event.

1
lemmy.zip

I own most of these games, and would regift the rest here if I won, so basically if I win, at least one other person wins, too.

3
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

Wait so you'll just gift your copy to someone else essentially? Or what do you mean by rest?

2
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

I figured. I've added another clarification further up in the post body

2
lemmy.zip

I reread your post and it is pretty clear. I was jusy in a hurry when I read it before and skimmed past that part.

Would love to win one of the titles I don’t own. If I win and none of the titles I don’t own are available, I would defer to the runner up.

3

I’ve played lies of p, and the expansion. It really was a wonderful game. I hope they make another in a similar vein.

3

Currently playing lies of P and it is really a great game. Feel like it got the souls feeling perfectly

3

Would love Lies of P. Saw a bit of a boss fight on a stream and it seemed right up my alley. Haven't heard of a lot of those though

3
lemmy.world

From the ones listed I have played Remnant 2 the most and also enjoyed it the most. Only thing I like less is that it's 3 man co-op and our group had 4 people who have the game. So we always ended up excluding 1 person.

Hollow Knigt and Curse of the Dead Gods I own and tried but it just didn't click at the time, perhaps I just need to give them another chance.

3

Ohhh, tossing my hat in the ring for this one. There are a lot of games on that list I'd love to try. Thank you for organising this!

3

Hollow Knight is such a beautiful game, but holy moly i got frustrated. I just don't have the time to get good at it.

3

I'm still owing you guys a hollow knight review but I'll add another one to the waitlist 😅

3
sopuli.xyz

What is a good "starter" soulslike, for people new to the genre?

3
Druidreply
lemmy.zip

It depends on what you'd like your entry-point to be, what platforms you're playing on, and what your budget is. Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 come to mind for being sorta beginner-friendly, but they're a bit on the more expensive side of games if you go for a PC copy vs. a used physical console copy.

Elden Ring has a huge open world that allows you to tackle whatever challenges you may face in, more or less, any order you prefer. It can ramp up in difficulty quite a lot later on; however, the game also allows you to farm materials for upgrades and runes for level-ups, so you can keep up with the rising challenge of the game. It's got an excellent expansion that many fans love a lot. It's the soulslike that introduced a lot of fans to the series. Many started here and branched off into other directions: either starting from the beginning in chronological order, or picking games based on the mechanics they liked the most from Elden Ring.

Of the three Dark Souls games, DS3 is probably the easiest to get into. The pace of the game compared to the first two is a lot faster, so you need to get used to playing more aggressive and to dodge and block efficiently to not get killed in bossfights a lot. But overall, it's probably easier than DS1 or 2 because it's more modern and has a lot of QoL changes that make the game flow better.

DS1 is a lot easier in terms of combat, but the game is also a lot jankier and has a lot of obtuse mechanics that are not explained very well. It's still worth a shot if you can get a copy for cheap. DS2 is probably not a good first soulslike.

Lies of P is probably also a good first soulslike since it has difficulty options to choose from. That way, should the game get too difficult for you, you can adjust the difficulty and have an easier time progressing. Some people aren't fans of this since you "don't learn to adjust to the difficulty of the game", but that's nonsense imho. Play whatever way suits you and just have a good time.

Additionally, LoP has a lot of cool mechanics mixed into one tight package. Parrying for people who like Sekiro, dodging and weaving for people who like Bloodborne or DS3, self-contained levels with branching paths and clever level design for people who like the DS series.

Those are a couple recommendations I could give you off the top of my head. There's also a lot of other games I could recommend based on what games you usually play. For example, if you like shooters, you might like Remnant. Or if you prefer a ligther experience both in tone as well as in difficulty, Another Crab's Treasure might be worth a look. :)

3

Thank you for your detailed response!

Yes I remember playing dark souls 2 as my first dark souls game ever, back in 2017. I played around 3 hours and have never played another dark souls like game since then haha.

But as I can tell, it was probably the worst place to start. I'll definitely give some of the other games a chance, and see if I can get into them!

2

How does Blasphemous 2 compare to 1? I haven't finished the first yet, but the platforming controls often put me off because they feel so rigid. Perhaps I'm just too used to 2D platformers having some movement leniency like coyote time.

I do really like the atmosphere and theme of the game, but boy is there a lot of platforming.

2

This is awesome, thanks for doing this! Events like this are a great way to grow the fediverse!

2

That's pretty cool, there are definitely some cool titles here that I would be interested in

2

Thank you for doing this! Good luck to whoever wins!
