I recall watching some deep-dive reviews of the elder scrolls games and it being mentioned that Todd defended his dumbing down and pandering to the lowest common denominator of the RPG series as the right thing to do, because high sales figures protect the workers from the financially unstable position the studio was in prior to Morrowind's success. I guess that's out the window, now.

I mean, I don't think Todd could have predicted the world's economic crisis it is currently in.

If people like you and I actually had the money to spend on games like we used to ~10-15 years ago, I would say it is less likely that Todd's statement would be considered wrong.

this man makes a fair point, my game spending is down 90% in the last 5 years.

Game spending is at an all time high, it's just all mobile game whales and Roblox.

They're part of the problem. I'm sure they will sell plenty of copies, but they will make their money elsewhere.

GTA:O was why GTAV never got any expansion pack, and GTAVI took so long. GTA:O was all about the whales. It was miserable to play, because they focused on creating a grind which you could pay yourself out of, and it worked. They made ungodly amounts of money. That same thing will happen to GTAVI. Hopefully we get a good story out of the base game, but it is already being reported that things like "getting a haircut" are being locked behind the $100 SKU, and it's only going to get worse from there.

They will suck every dime they can out of whales while ignoring everybody else.

GTA5 broke records before online was even out but online became popular also

A company focusing on the most popular part of their business is essentially what they have to do, it wasn’t just that whales spent money it just became far more popular than any single player dlc would be

GTA6 hasn’t taken much longer than similar games, it just takes that much time to achieve these days

They laid off the lead artist who has been with the company since Morrowind.

I mean... I do like being able to put shoes and helmets on them for the armor and for more enchanted items.

But they could have made special digitigrade shoes and properly fitting helms just for them. 🤷‍♂️

With this the last hope I had for ES6 died. First the news that Micro$lop forced them to rush it and now this? Seems like Skyrim will have to live for another 15 years or longer

Bethesda wasn't exactly doing themselves any favors beforehand but Micro$lop definitely made it worse

Unions need to strike. It’s the only way to stop the massive layoffs that are hitting the other studios MS owns.

Stop all work immediately and strike. They are likely to lose their jobs anyways so what’s the point.
