How do I contact the admin(s) of an instance?

I believe one or more moderators of an instance are acting in bad faith. As I understand it, Lemmy does not have a modmail function to address the issue with the team, so I need to seek out the instance admin?

How do I:

  1. Find out who that is

  2. Contact them

I see no indication towards either on the community's side bar and I don't think there's a support@[instance] community.

It's going to depend on the instance and what software they're running to connect to the fediverse.

For PieFed instances, visit the homepage for the instance itself, scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the "About" page. There's usually some contact info for the admins there.

For Lemmy instances, visit their homepage, scroll to the bottom and click on "Legal". There's usually contact info for the admins there.

For Mbin/Kbin instances, click on the menu, then scroll down to the "contact" link.

Sometimes instances won't let you view information without a local account. Usually, in those cases, you can try to "register for an account" but then look for any sort of "privacy" or "terms of service" links which should have contact information for the instance admins.

it doesn't appear to be about LW.

@op:

you can try to visit the instance domain directly and check the instance sidebar there.

if it's lemmy it will also show the admins in the sidebar, if it's other software it can be harder to find. you can then look up the admin users from LW and send them a pm if they don't have any other contact info on their instance.

Okay cool, it does look like I'll have to copy+paste and DM every admin on their list if I want to translate Reddit's Message the Moderators to Lemmy, but I only found that admin list thanks to your help; I was only able to find the moderator list before.

Yeah lemmy.world is pretty clear, but I was hoping for a general how-to because most instances are not, including the instance I'm looking for the information for.

I'm moving from Reddit and trying to learn all the basics, and of course Reddit has the "Message the Moderators" button clearly visible on every subreddit.

Think of each instance as their own website that shares posts. You wouldn't contact Bing because Google deprioritises your website.

There is no central Lemmy authority as that kinda goes against the idea of the fediverse decentralisation.

The best you can do is post about it on the various mod complaining communities.
