Jesus Christ, I didnt know how bad things had gotten at the reflecting pool, that video of the national guard announcing over megaphone to not loiter is legit I think the most Orwellian imagery I've ever seen, at least when it comes to modern events 😅

The juxtaposition after watching mamdani go for a dip and give folks hugs is honestly so surreal as to be comical

The US government seriously couldn't look more evil if it tried. USA is turning into what I was always told North Korea is.

Land of the "free" ? Land of the "don't spend time in public areas, terrorists!"

Does feel like something that would have been included in the wolfenstein games as dramatic critique and we're bringing it into reality because the president did a really bad job of painting to reflecting pool blue so it looks like a swimming pool.

Dumbest timeline. 😐

Lincoln was a white supremacist

Edit: wooah, why the down votes? Please tell me there's not that many people here ignorant of history?

It seems like it's really the GOP that needs some reflecting.

Trump can drive through it with a motorcade, but God forbid you stand there and look at it for more than 2 minutes.

Exactly what establishment Dems are terrified of: a successful progressive setting an example

Amazing what happens when a progressive isn't beholden to the party and isn't in a position where the party can interfere.

Which is why I worry for his safety. Not from the opposition, but the wolves in sheep's clothing.

They named an airport after LaGuardia. Maybe one day they’ll name a high-speed rail terminus after Mamdani.

56

Ok this sounds like something from a Styx song. Or a 1950s sci-fi movie. Same thing.

You can see that noble gentleman's good heart as he leaps into the pool with the children.

And you can simultaneously see why the fascism-enabling centrists are terrified.

Mr. Mamdani is, in fact, America's mayor.

51

Apparently it's a revival of a previous mayor's tradition, but from 2003. When I first read about the tradition I thought it would be much older lol.

On the one hand I want to gag at the thought of a suit being in the pool but on the other I love and miss public pools. I really took for granted the outdoor pools in my home town (not NY) even though I used them regularly. I thought they were normal 😭

Absolutely love the sentiment and the action, but bro you're jumping into the pool with actual clothes on??? Unhinged behavior.

-3

It's part of the joke. He's never in public without the suit.

5

Upvote because I can understand sarcasm without an /s.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

You reached the end
