This is like a Far Side cartoon: “how many times do I have to tell you lunkheads? These are the therapy ferrets, those are the pest-control ferrets, don’t mix them up”
I feel like killing a rat is probably therapeutic for a therapy ferret. I mean, that's kind of what ferrets are into. Probably more than being handled by the planet's superpredator, at any rate.
What a headline.
The biggest issue is "childrens prison".
While my knee jerk reaction was the same, especially given the British tradition of hating their own children, but pondering a bit, it's really a bit more honest than "juvenile detention" or any of the other euphemisms.
Hmm something tells me maybe the manger needs therapy and not be in charge of children
I know this is probably considered cruelty to animals, but a part of me thinks, "wouldn't the ferrets fucking love this?"
Possibly more than being a therapy pet.
Just because they love doing the job (and they do) doesn't mean they should be doing it for free, so sayeth the Union for Employed Weasels.
We at the People For Proper Weasel Personhood (PFPWP) agree. Weasel work goes unpaid to this day resulting in millions of unpaid weasel hours yearly. This theft of labor leaves weasel without the ability to engage in banking or save for retirement.
Cool and normal world we built here.
Story time. I lived in rural Idaho where my children got to witness their science teacher feed live puppies to his turtle in front of the students.

Having been in the community the amount of cruelty people exhibited towards animals was insane. Of course the jury let the guy go because hey, they would have fed a "sick" puppy to.a turtle as well because "circle of life" and all that.
wow how distressing, break out the cotton wool
If you ever have heard a rabbit or rat scream it is a distressing sound and if they are not finished fast it can last a long time.

I would imagine a child in juvenile hall would possibly already be traumatized. They would be more likely to suffer a negative psychological response causing distress and possibly shutdown.
If you grew up killing rats or rabbits this would probably be nothing. I think it would be a lot more triggering to a suburban or city kid.
Yeah, that's like my first girlfriend's brat sister when I explained to her that the eggs she ate were essentially shat by hens. That's how you learn about nature. Nature is both wonderful, and gnarly.
if you can't feel sympathy for children in prison, i don't know what to tell you
what? what cotton wool fairyland do you live in?
