The over-50s are most likely to overdose. Here’s how older people use drugs
...the latest figures from the Penington Institute show older Australians are increasingly dying from overdoses.
On average, seven people died every day from a drug-related overdose. Unintentional drug overdoses make up more than 80% of those deaths.
For the first time in a decade, this year’s report showed people aged 50–59 years made up the highest proportion of unintentional deaths (25.5%). People 40–49 years old are a close second (25.4%).
Those aged 50-59 years also had the second-highest intentional drug-related deaths (19.9%) after people in their 70s (22%).
So why are overdoses increasing in this age group? Are over-50s simply using more drugs or is something else going on?..
If we want to prevent these deaths, we need to recognise that drug-related harm does not disappear with age. It may just change shape. And so must our responses.

I question how the unintentionality of it.
You may be right but we can't judge from a distance.
The rave generation is getting old.
Their offspring are older and dealing with the aftermath of a big night is manageable again.
Yes ofcourse. We are fragile beings. As we age everything starts to work worse. Hell i cant sit on the ground crosslegged without my lower back letting me know about it for the rest of the day and im only in my late 30s.
Combine age related fragility with also the fact that you all of a sudden feel like your 20 years old again and boom your heart explodes.
Hi, if you're only in your late 30s you should not be having such a problem with your lower back. It will only get worse if you don't have it seen to and find out what could help. Perhaps stretching exercise or yoga, qigong, tai chi. This is your Aussie Zone nanna here. I apologise if I've overstepped the mark.
It doesn’t help that the older you get, the more medications you’re prescribed, and the more interaction risks you run with not only each prescription — but other things you ingest or use like foods, alcohol, caffeine, supplements, over the counter stuff like aspirin or ibuprofen, cold medicines, and recreational drugs like pot, etc.
Stimulants do crazy shit to your blood pressure. You're not built for it anymore.
Important to keep fit / train sober as hard as you plan to rave.
