When going from USBC to HDMI you always need an adapter because the signal from USBC is DP not HDMI.

No, there is not. But there are cables with the conversion chip integrated into the cable so they arent bulky or anything.

Be aware that a lot of MacBooks only allow one external display. Took me forever to figure out why I wasn't getting two external displays.
