Kevin Smith?

So I was just watching a video on youtube where a guy looks at various designs of Batman's costume, and explaining why certain versions of the suit make sense for the project it appears in.

And as part of his B-Roll, he pans over a shot of comic books. One of them has Batman in a very Batman generic pose. On a rooftop, just looking into the distance. That pose.

But the thing that caught my eye, is it also said "Writer - Kevin Smith".

Whaaa? Holupaminute. Is this a case of just two people unrelated having the same name? Or are you telling me that the guy who directed Clerks is now a writer for legit DC Batman comic books????

he's written a ton of comics. his love for comics isn't really hidden. I mean he sold his entire comic book collection in order to make Clerks. Mallrats main character is a comic book nerd. Chasing Amy is about a couple comic book writers falling in love and an "inker". He had a show on AMC called "Comic Book Men" about his friends running his Comic book store "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash" in west bank New Jersey. he has a podcast about comics and movies. Dude is neck deep still to this day into comics.

If you haven’t seen Chasing Amy, it’s a Kevin Smith movie where his involvement in comics comes across. The main characters write comics. Stan Lee even cameos.

you're thinking Mallrats, Stan Lee has a cameo in Mallrats when he talks to Brodie about love and Brodie just wants to talk about super hero dicks.

if you can I would HIGHLY suggest watching Mallrats with the original DVD commentary. Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, a hungover sounding Ben Affleck, and a high Jason Mewes. It's awesome and hilarious. It's pretty much just all of them, especially affleck, just ripping the film. it's hilarious.

Yes, it is the same.
He also did a bunch more. He also wrote for Marvel some Daredevil and Spider-Man for example. Wikipedia lists it in his article under 'Bibliography'.

He published a lot of comics (Marvel, DC, ...) and also produced the Masters of the Universe series from a few years ago.

This week a friend comes over to watch Clerks (his first time). It's in his best interest to love it :D
