Let me tell you a story about Shelby. 30 years ago my college D&D group went to the DM's house in Shelby to play over the summer. The house was downtown and while we are sitting on the screened in porch smoking cigar and having a beer a Klan rally goes by and we all said what the fuck. The DM said. " THAT'S Shelby!!" He later married a Norwegian woman and moved to Norway. I considered him lucky.

Jesus Christ. The only other place in NC like that is Denton, way south of High Point. I think they still have the signage up for calling itself a "sundown town."
