The Wordle devs didn't actually do anything (probably), the accusation is just an extremely exaggerated way to express discontent at the choice of word.
If I know anything about Wordle players, it's that a lot of them get irrationally angry when they deem a word unknowable. Might go as far as throwing ludicrous accusations at game devs.
It's a weird meaning "study", most often used in English to refer to pieces of music designed to help practise specific techniques. At a stretch, you could say that "studying" is an activity associated with children, and that's the connection.
