The reporters who pretend perfectly functional alternatives to Google don't exist are the same reporters that call twitter "The Internet" and if they left at all, went to BlueSky.

Considering large swaths of the internet are just inaccessible without a Google account I'd say its already been runined.
Of course this isn't mentioning Facebook, Discord, or what little worth a Microsoft account is.
