White House to host mass prayer event to promote Christian origins of the US, wants everyone to pray tomorrow

The gathering has been organised by the White House as part of a programme of celebrations for America's 250th birthday and, in a video message inviting Americans to attend, Hegseth said it was an opportunity to "rededicate this republic to God and country".

Muscular Christian nationalism has enjoyed a prominent platform since Trump's return to power, and evangelicals form a core element of the president's support base.

I thought America was a secular state?
A secular state is an idea pertaining to secularity, whereby a state is or purports to be officially neutral in matters of religion, supporting neither religion nor irreligion.[1] A secular state claims to treat all its citizens equally regardless of religion, and claims to avoid preferential treatment for a citizen based on their religious beliefs, affiliation or lack of either over those with other profiles.

And yet I was taught in school that people went to America to escape religious persecution.

And secular music, dancing, card playing, theatres and taverns.

They wanted a country of their own where they could practice their beliefs of intolerance and hate in peace

What happened to separation of church and state. Which was always funny since they have in god we trust on their money.

12

That got added during the Cold War. The USSR had no state religion, so the anti commie McCarthyists added that phrase to the money.

11

I mean the pledge of allegiance was already its whole own brand of very fucked up

They were “persecuted” in the same manner the modern fundamentalist calls being told to respect the boundaries of others and coexist with different people “persecution”. In an era of religious extremism, the Puritans were so fucking obnoxious even the other Protestants didn’t want them around. It’s a national myth, loosely based on a kernel of truth but twisted to fit the broader idea that Christians, especially the fundamentalist ones, are a victimized, persecuted minority when they don’t get to use their religion as an excuse to force their bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, and values on everyone else.

bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, and values

misread this as bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, and wolves

what might that mean???

4

Well cuz, I think you’ve just got canines on the mind. I know they’d like to think of themselves as pack leaders or lone survivors, but the Lord is their shepherd and we all know what shepherds look after. Care for some mutton?

3

EPSTEIN FILES!!!! OMG THEY TORTURED, RAPED, AND KILLED CHILDREN. Fuck your stupid prayer. Only the most depraved demon would answer any of their prayers. Also, I hear they ate people too.

Muscular Christian nationalism

Somebody's gonna rip a phone book in half....

But even with the power of God Almighty, no Christian warrior can rip the Epstein Files in half.

HAHAHAHA I also read this and was like wot, maybe its british slang LMAO idk

8

They're definitely using it like "bullying".

As in it's upfront and in people's faces?

I've never heard it used that way but in context it makes sense. I just immediately pictured the Workaholics episode where they had "Christian Strongmen".

Nope, Muscular Christianity is a religious movement that attempted to tie Christianity to fitness, masculinity, and patriotism as well as the rejection of more traditional Christian values such as meekness and pacifism. It's deeply tied to crises of masculinity.

Matthew 6:5

“And when you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

We can pray for the demise of Christofascism, but it's going to be our job to make that prayer come true.

They need to do this from their closet.

At least according to their own text.

https://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/mt/6.html?v=6

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Priests read this as gospel at mass where everyone shows up to pray in public and will 100% gossip behind your back if you miss a Sunday or don't look like you're praying hard enough while there.

2

I'm so glad I live in a part of the United States where I just don't have to give a fuck about picking the "right" church and doing the "right" things there. I have to pay as much attention to that shit as I do to how much someone loves Harry Potter series vs. Star Wars.

Though apparently that is a huuuuge thing in certain parts of the U.S., notably, the South.

My view is that religion and all its little rules and rituals are for those that have adapted that lifestyle. Since I live in a secular nation, I don't have to give two farts in a high wind about any of it.

Donald Trump is a prophet of the old testament. He even got the part about fucking his own daughter right.

Most of Christianity in USA is disgusting and unchristian.

13

Can we get a petition going to officially change the name of the "no true Scotsman" fallacy?

I'm actually not even kidding, "no true Christian" is far more relevant today.

My thing is, why would satan punish people for sinning. He is the ultimate sinner. Surely satan would revel in the sins. Wouldn’t he praise the sinners?

4

God's just another shitty boss. Satan was just the first union organizer trying to get fair treatment for himself and his coworkers. Hell was his punishment for that. He's not in charge of anything as far as is described by the text.

3

Is Satan controlled opposition? Is he heaven's Chuck Schumer?

1

I sort of wonder if we're not already in hell, as detrrmined by the last election?

Respectfully disagree.

While it doesn't comport with many (better) people's concepts of it, these people aren't all hopped up on secular humanism when they ban books and open de-transition centers

Hail. Mother fucking. SATAN if these are the assholes telling you to pray to Jesus

5

Satan brought us light, fire, and knowledge. What did the Abrahamitic god ever do for US??

1

I'm so atheist that I find even discussing it asinine. It's odd to me that a grown adult could hold any other opinion, and I'd rather keep pretending that I'm surrounded by grown adults. So I don't discuss it at all. And then shit like this comes along ...

5

I don't pray

And you don't pray

It seems it's been that way forever

So if I don't pray

And you don't pray

Why not not pray together?

3

I'd rather be in this hell then bow to the knee to these fuck ups or any religion, besides all the women I like would be there as well if their "imagination land" were real so fug off you orange dingleberry

4

Nah just never bowed to anyone, I project what they give, everyone plain and simple, I don't like what's goin on, but until a gorgeous latina is by my side and they try takin her, it's on, but also I be standin herealone much like everyone else spoutin off, so take it as it comes

2

I have no gods to pray to but anyway good luck with that

3

I can pray. He won't like to whom or for what I pray, but sure, the gods could use another plea for his downfall.

The government is endorsing the concept that the citizens should reject Critical Thinking Skills, and embrace Faith-Based Thinking, in which people believe what they are told, without any evidence, based solely on faith in the authority sending the message. Once they've convinced someone of their authority, anything they say will be believed, no matter how outlandish.
