Haha, I'm glad I'm not like that....

remembers the blue hat I wear every day

Ah, crap.

Same exact reaction.

“At least I don’t wear a hat.”

Except for that blue cadet-style cap you got in Colorado that you liked because it, combined with your beard, made you look vaguely like a train conductor or a maybe a Union soldier and also expressed your love of mountains which you wear almost every morning when walking your dog to hide your bed-head.

“Fuck.”

Texas: Y'all ain't gotta wait 'till yer 30! You can put on a Stetson soon as yer old enough for mutton bustin' and wear that sucker for the rest of yer got-danged life!

I've got a beaver-skin U.S. Forest Service Stetson. It doesn't even fit, but it's so badass I can't part with it.

Edit: Picture:

How close is it? You can take it into a hat store with a steamer and have them resize it.

And being the southwest wearing a hat outside isn't really a choice, unless you like a sunburned scalp.

Monkey sees, monkey wants. I'm in desperate need of a personality. Is this hat real?

Mine is a Boonie hat in digicam that I made myself from scratch

Your face camo works better with that terrain than the hat camo

Considering how my neck usually ends up after a day of gardening I should probably invest in one of those.

As a 49ers fan I carry a little extra hate for them choosing a red hat to signify their shittiness.

No way anyone's touching those hands, we know where they've been.

4

You might wanna go & see a doctor to get those cold, dead hands looked at...

3

Well that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

Edit: I ended up going the 5-panel, flat brim hat long ago due to ultimate.

1

Still better than me with baseball cap :D hats like fedora or panama are amazingly great fit for me. Proper size. Trilby (the type of fedora on the picture), is not that fashionable, tho. But wrong size and this picture made the bad reputation for almost all fedoras, except the Linux one.

2

Gotta get some bill accessories. I was looking for something like a fishing hook but with roach clips but this works too(random Etsy listing):

5

I chose 2 actually
Faded old Yankee dad hat
Yankee snapback with oversized logo
And turning the visor to the back is old hat

8

My face doesn't accessorise well at all. Never found glasses or hats that suit me

7

The wind easily blew my hat off the other day…that’s when I realized I bought it more than 15 years ago and it’s probably time to update old faithful.

7

Damn.

I was about to make a joke about a dumb novelty hat I wore my senior year of college... then realized I wore it so much that if I did so, there'd be a non-zero chance I might accidentally dox myself lol

I'm sure they were mass produced, but Murphy's Law is a cruel mistress haha

My hat that says 'SLUDGE' in a metal band font is just part of my personality! The other half is a Mountain Dew shirt.

5

Nearly 50 and don't have a single hat that dominates. I have around 15 that I wear at various times. But most often don't wear one at all. I went through my hat phase in elementary and jr high.

I had a period in my early 20s when I wore one if these:

I had no thought behind it, just liked it, but many thought it was to look older. Haven't really worn a hat since then, only a beanie during winter but not at all in a "define my personality" way. Guess I gotta go and find something, definitely some hippie thing!

4

I bought one like this recently, because I shave my head and without one it's either too cold or too sunny. I love it, but my kids keep saying it's an "old man's hat". I don't care, I've had people in the street stop me to tell me it looks good .

1

Turned 33 and bought a cap with a hockey logo to work outside with. Family then bought me a wool flatcap. I'm so torn.

4

I started shaving my head at 23. Hats make my head sweaty and they're uncomfortable. Also the confidence to not wear a hat makes you stand out for a certain kind of woman.

4

Lucky me, I look terrible in every hat so now my entire personality is "doesn't wear hats."

My hat's a tactical cap with hook-and-loop mounting points, where I change out various morale patches based on what I'm feeling that day. (A lot of times it's the X-COM "vigilo confido" patch haha.)

So does the hat choose my personality? Or does my personality choose the hat? Who's to say. It's flexible and open to change at least. :D

4
lemmy.world

Damn, that's cool.

I have that Vigilo Confido as a sticker on my PC case, and I picked up one of these Chryssalids to live on a shelf above where I usually play.

2
lemmy.today

Damn, that's cool.

❤️

That sounds wicked! I should totally decorate my PC case with an emblem like that too! I'm still using that Corsair C70 that looks like an olive drab ammo box. :D

Awesome (and super spooky) chryssalid figure! I didn't even know they made those. 😲 It definitely does the creature justice!

Now I wonder what other figures there are, but I realize at this point I'm probably better off making my own fan models to 3D print. XD

I don't wanna know how old X-COM WoTC is. I always start it, make a bunch of progress, and then have to abandon it for like half a year at a time. One of these daaaays!!!

I gotta go back and try the classics too. There's open source engines for them now! :D

2

Surprisingly, I haven't been able to find much merch other than the chryssalids, but it's so far after the fact now that yeah, custom stuff is basically the only way. The chryssalids are still on eBay for about 10 bucks.

I played Enemy Unknown, but most of my time over the past decade(?) has been WOTC. I would have the same pattern of sinking hours into it, then getting distracted, then restarting. Over the past few months, I've been really grinding out Legendary+Ironman and finally just beat it for the first time ever. It took dozens and dozens of attempts. I'm eager to go back and play the original stuff too. I have them on steam, but the UI seems like a challenge to get used to.

PS: I created an XCOM community here when I joined lemmy, but it never really took off. It's probably too niche to have regular content with the size of lemmy. https://lemmy.world/c/xcom

2

I have a collection of toques for winter and keep another collection of ballcaps from various places, mostly museums and zoos. The one I got for visiting the Smithsonian was a Washington D.C. one, though, and it doesn't cover my head well.

Mine are Poten hats. I like that they're "artisinally" made and the leather sweat band feels unique. Been wearing a synthetic suede hat from them and I like that it looks like suede but is more durable because it's a nylon hat brushed to look/feel like suede...

Flat cap with fold-down ear warmers. It's like a sophisticated baseball cap, and you won't freeze your ears off when it hits -10.

3

Remember when silly hats the key factor in determining who should go to war with who?

2

The backwards hat maneuver fell out of style a while ago. You now see it mostly on people in their 40s rather than anyone younger

I'm going bald and still wont wear a hat unless I'm out in the sun. Been thinking of getting a fedora just to laugh at its current status among the simple minded.
