We can skip the tax and straight to Luigi. Your call.

I've said that if I went out and they were guillotining billionaires I would say "Hey, I wanted to do this with progressive taxation, single-payer healthcare, and free daycare, but you just wouldn't compromise, so here we are!"

When I say "tax the rich" I absolutely do mean it with as much hate in my heart as any slur-shouting racist ever had.

The difference here is: The rich earned that hate.

Oh, and by the way, there are two options here...

  1. Tax the rich.

  2. Eat the rich.

Your choice, buddy. Which will it be?

89

Sorry, Richie Rich, but people don't get to choose their race. You, conversely, could have chosen not to be a soulless currency hoarder.

Nothing wrong with hating a person for things they did voluntarily.

70
lemmy.world

Yes. But it's all relative. You are probably a very rich person compared to the poorest 20% of the world. Should they eat you?

You know, it's tricky. I get called rich on the Internet, based on my position and salary. But I don't feel rich. I don't own my own home and I doubt I ever will. I rarely take vacations,I don't eat out - too expensive. I don't go to the pub with my friends anymore, can't afford it.

Because I live in Vancouver, an expensive city.

It's all relative.

14

It’s totally relative. My husband and I together in Germany earn about half of what I used to earn alone in the US (we’re a student and an apprentice, so we earn especially little). I’m still significantly more prepared for emergency costs now than I used to be, because the total rent for my apartment is about half what I used to pay, and I no longer have significant health/health insurance or vehicle costs.

5
lemmy.world

We’re talking about people that are, objectively, richer than 99% of literally everyone else in the entire world. The point you’re trying to make is relatively meaningless in the current context.

8
lemmy.world

Not really. You probably have all your needs met (enough food, somewhere comfortable to sleep) with leftover resources. Many in the world do not have their basic needs met. You could give your extra resources (everything above necessary food and board) to the poor. You are hoarding wealth from their perspective. Just like you see the billionaires hoarding wealth.

Oh I'm no hero, I've got way more than I need and I'm enjoying it. Not bezos levels, but quite fine thank you. But as such I can see the vitriol against the millionaires is rather hypocritical. And I can jerk off however I see fit.

1

So treating the rich like everyone else who is paying taxes is a “racial slur”.

When You’re Accustomed To Privilege, Equality Feels Like Oppression

The interesting part for me, is that you can clearly infer from this that billionaires consider themselves a different race.

26
lemmy.world

They certainly consider themselves outside of society. Even the sociopath billionaire equivalents of the early previous century had beaten into them the understanding of civic duty and charity, so they built schools, libraries, and hospitals. Today’s billionaires have none of that other than a desire to lighten their tax load and donate in self-serving ways. They are truly parasites on society, they leech off of everyone and cause far more harm relative to the absolutely minuscule few jobs they might create - and even then the jobs only serve to make the billionaire richer.

22

Exactly. Even the most brutal lords and rulers understood that they needed to keep their populace placated somehow or there will be trouble.

The Italian warlords and nobility of the 15th and 16th centuries were some of the most monstrous, murderous bastards you've ever seen, but they also bankrolled much of the art that Renaissance Italy is famous for.

Guillotines are too 18th century. We can use woodchippers. Feet first!

11
lemmy.ml

but it's easier to pass the head around the crowd than whatever bits and pieces left by the woodchipper

4

But why though? All they did in the past was hold up the head and cry out 'behold the head of (insert name here)'.

A public execution with them clearly in the woodchopper and screaming in agony is all what is needed.

1

Listen pumpkin "tax the rich" is the last thin sliver that stands between you and what the rest of us really want. So take your pick.

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven.

14

Glad this guy is reminding us that the extremely wealthy can say shit so profoundly stupid you have to question their mental capacity. Really drives home that circumstances and greed can and do make stupid people rich.

17

I agree. It is hateful. People hate your face and what your kind is doing to the world and to it's people.

Is it morally unjust though? Nope. You are the leeches of this world and unless forcibly removed you will destroy more and more lives, most likely the world.

Beint taxed fairly is the easy way.

10

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

9

Some slurs are worth speaking. "Beat the rich!", "Ax the rich!", and "Luigi time!" are wonderfully horrible things to say.

8

The rich can always get rid of their money and then they will be like everyone else. They don't have to be wealthy.

6

"Honey, the government has raised taxes, we'll have to cut the yacht and only keep two homes. And the cabin, of course."

"I want a divorce"

6
lemmy.world

Its true, I do hate the rich, I want to see every last cent taken from them and given to the needy.

5

The wealthy are one of the few groups for which bullying is allowed, and encouraged.

Also Anti-Vaxxers.

5

This billiremoved looks like he'd make great chicken feed.

3

Maybe it is ... but there's also some justice in it. At lot of rich people got that what by taking advantage of a lot of taxpayer-funded infrastructure (like Bezos, say). Others got that way by paying their workers as little as they could get away with. Others slowly buy up the competitions then sell shittier stuff for the same price.

When you add it all up, it's clear that they've gotten the system rigged in their favor for a looong time. It's payback time, muh-fuhs.

3
lemmy.ca

He's not wrong. I hate that SOB.

edit: lmao OP didn't get the joke. I hate the rich landlord asshole, not Mamdani.

3

OH GOD! I am so TIRED of hearing about how the "poors" struggle and about the "bad" rich people! I am poor but I plan to be rich, and I think it's DISGUSTING how the lower classes are trying to keep me down from from rising above them!!!

3

There's something poetic about the fact that this guy looks like lex luthor.

2

Doctor's 'pull it out by its head' slogan is 'just as hateful' as racial slurs, New York tick says

1

Yes it is hateful. That is absolutely true. It's also absolutely true that this hatred is based on choices and actions, not on a characteristic that someone was born with or did not have any choice over. So fuck him.

So all I would have to say to him is this: You want people to be proud of you, do something that is worthy of praise, you pathetic bastard. And hey! If you can't think of anything off the top of your head, there's plenty of mouths to feed and we can always build a guillotine.
