Also known as Asking My Husband How Often He Thinks About the Roman Empire or the Roman Empire TikTok Trend, refers to a 2023 Instagram Reels and TikTok trend in which women asked the men in their lives (husbands, boyfriends, fathers, brothers, etc.) how often they think about the Roman empire. When asked, the men predominantly said that they think about Rome frequently, resulting in the women being surprised by that.
It's niche in more diverse communities where history is reflected on in a more global sense and is less eurocentric overall (hence Denzel's hilarious response) but it's neat that these young men are reflecting on history. Hopefully it helps them understand something meaningful about the world.
It's like I keep saying, the only entertaining parts of races are the wipeouts, collisions, and wrecks. Ever seen cyclists collide. Into a mess? It's fucking hilarious. Runners tripping over each other? Great stuff. Oh and the NASCAR crashes may look good, but there's plenty of other motor vehicle crashes that are pretty awesome.
The only difference now is that we don't use chariots.
I wonder what the first sporting event with stadium seating was.
Also, what was the first use of that kind of seating? Were people sitting to watch sports? A concert? A play? Politics of some kind? The past is so bloodthirsty I wouldn't be surprised if it was for an execution. But, if so, that must have meant that the second event with that kind of seating would have had one hell of a sales pitch. "Come see Anki and Adad in concert singing their ballads of love! At dusk on this day of the sun at the slaughter grounds!"
The first seated events would probably have been people speaking to larger groups in amphitheaters that naturally formed by rock formations. You can often find natural amphitheaters as features of parks with cliffs, and people were probably inherently drawn to those kinds of spaces
Would people show up just to hear a guy speak though? Maybe the first things in those amphitheatres was a sport, or singing. Another likely possibility is something religious. If one of the gods wants you to show up to witness something, you better do it or else the next drought is on you.
