Yes, I preloaded my steam wallet yesterday so I could skip the card step. I happened to check the store page 2 minutes early and it was live so I sent it.

28

Lucky you, I’m stuck trying to get past the “yes, use my wallet credit” screen :(

It was a good plan to preload it yesterday… but plans and reality. You know.

Edit: 31 minutes later, it went in! With a warning about shipping times due to high volume of orders, but it went in.

16

Gratz!

I had money in my wallet too and got the buy button about 1 minute early, but still got stuck in the "There seems to have been an error" loop until my order went through 32 minutes later.

I did not know you could do this. I did save my credit card info yesterday, but would have done this if I knew how.

It's the Add funds button in your steam wallet. You can add multiple of 5s

4

Thank you! I have always seen that, but figured it was to use a gift card.

2

Yeah I check 2 min early just so I could refresh the page right at 10, and I was surprised when I saw the orders were open, after spamming the next button on payment, I was able to get mine in at 10

This was bullshit, had it in my cart the minute it became available but it was impossible to checkout on mobile. All my friends on pc bought theirs on easily

20

If it makes you feel better, I was on desktop (web) (and mobile and when I was getting desperate deck, lol) and my order didn't go through until xx:31. I think it really was just random.

5

It was probably easier to spam continue in PC vs mobile. It wasn’t until I got good at hitting continue before it scrolled I got through.

4

That was my situation too initially. I first tried while using my Steam Deck and it kept running into errors during checkout. So I yeeted myself to my main desktop where it went through without a hitch.

Mobile always seems less stable than desktop when making purchases.

4

I tired buying on PC but couldn't get it to go through. Started trying on mobile, and that was where I finally got my order in.

3

I think it’s funny just how popular this thing is. How may people do you think are trying to buy it vs scalp it? 90:10? 80:20?

I don't even think it's that, I had preloaded wallet credit my payment was failing too.

1

After lots of button spamming, I eventually got my order placed.

Congrats!

I'm wondering if the "ships in 3 to 5 business days" is valid for everyone who got an order in.

7

Nope. Italy here: we had 3-5 days at first, a while ago it changed to 6-10. Not sure if that will change again or if we'll go out of stock before that.

8

When my order went through (20 minutes after launch, Germany), it had changed to "delayed due to high order volume" (or something like that).

In the EU it switched to 6 to 10 days. Hope I can get it before it's out of stock here as well.

Stuck on the payment screen myself. Scrolling Lenny and pressing “Pay Now” every minute or so.

This is how it was with the OG Steam Deck, too. Took me about 15 minutes of guard dogging to make sure I got one. That was a pretty stressful time, lol

11

There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.

Preordering the Deck was definitely stressful knowing every little delay could push you weeks down the shipping queue. I think I also got my Deck order in right at about 15 minutes which put my shipment in one of the April waves. Is that about where yours was too?

5

Haha, I'll never forget it because of how much the community was obsessed with mapping order times down to the second with each shipping wave and trying to predict ahead. I checked all those spreadsheets and things quite often in the couple months before my shipping notification. They actually got pretty close. It's a shame I don't actually use the Deck more than I do.

Too late to catch the Steam Deck rush but just in time for the Steam Controller one.

5

Too late for the Steam Deck

Too early for Steam Machine 2

Just in time for Steam Controller 2

7

It’s 2026 and we still don’t have the technology to support server demand surges like this in a way that is appealing to implement.

When I first saw such things happen over 20 years ago, I figured it was always incompetence. Now I know it’s just reality.

10

I was unlucky. Didn't remember the launch until it was too late. Not that it would have mattered since I was in lecture for college, but still would have been nice if I could have ordered one!

8

I will be waiting but I wish all you real people who woll use it good luck. And dont buckle to the scalpers in a few weeks: these will come back in stock in due time.

7

Mine just went through suddenly.

Store had been working fine for me, but the processing card step of the checkout has been broken for me.

7

Snagged one with little trouble, but I was early -- checked at XX:57 and the sale had gone live already, and I had put the money for it in my Steam Wallet last week as I wanted as few failure points as possible.

These things don't usually work out for me, so I have plenty of sympathy for those who got hung-up on the ordering page or just came a bit too late. For myself, I'm quite excited and it seems like it could even be here by the end of the week!

6

"There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."

6

I gave my OG controller to the two year old next door. He loves pressing all the buttons while we play games

In the US? Seems to be still in stock in Europe. But I still have a hard time ordering despite preloading my account with enough money.

8

Yes it was in the US at the time of posting. Came back up in stock about twenty minuted later and I actually got one. Now it is listed as OOS tho.

2

It's apparently going in and out of stock in waves, so there's still hope

4

Yeah, also thanks to scalpers. (Also, since when is it legal to offer an item on ebay you don't even have in your possession?)

Here's my confession: I will rarely use it and never sell it. It's my second true collector's item, much like the original. I'm perfectly happy with mouse and keyboard, I just want to own one for the sake of it.

Getting the launch version is the cherry on top.

4

Same. I had an OG controller a long time ago and HATED it and got rid of it. But like a year(?) before the new controller was announced I kinda wanted one again to play with. Not long after I found one at the thrift store and was IMMEDIETLY reminded how much I hate it. But I'm not going to get rid of it because it's a unique piece of tech. One I detest using, but unique and interesting.

2

The OG controller and Steam Deck are both sort of this way for me. Despite rarely using them, I never intend to sell them. My desktop just spoils me too much.

I expect having the new controller will actually encourage me to use the Deck more often though. Right now, starting a new game on the Deck feels like committing to the lesser experience due to not wanting to jump between control schemes. Having control parity fixes that.

1

...And the site just updated to Out of Stock. Grats to those of you who managed to get a payment jammed through.

4

Keep spamming Continue. It'll eventually switch to "Working." I must have hit it at least a hundred times from 9:59 PST to 10:10 before it worked for me. I wished they had opened purchasing right on the dot instead of a few minutes early, but oh well. I'm happy.

Edit: Out of Stock. Sorry everyone who didn't get one. :(

4
lemmy.world

Edit: Out of stock. Fuck my life!

Hitting the Continue like I hit that cunt in you.

No such luck.

4

Apparently they're toggling it back and forth between in stock and out of stock, so there's still hope

2

Have received "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance." on all attempts, all payment methods. Looks like it'll just be fried for a minute.

4

I was able to grab mine, just kept spamming order on the payment screen, and got it eventually. Also looks like it's still in stock so I guess I worried for not much in terms of it going out of stock

4
lemmy.world

Well, anyone who managed to get one, lemme know how the d-pad is on it. Is it better than the OG Steam Deck D-pad or the OLED D-pad? I changed my OLED d-pad to mechanical buttons, and it's felt much more accurate for 2d platformers and fighters.

4
azdlereply
news.idlestate.org

I got one and will try to post to this community with my thoughts after I receive it.

The dpad is also my biggest worry with it.

What did you do to upgrade your deck dpad? I would love to do that to mine too if it works well and isn't too loud.

3

Now paypal seems to have troubles

Edit: With credit card it worked. Also it seems 6-10 business days in EU

3

I got one at 10:05, but I really had to mash through it. It was in my cart at 9:59, but I kept getting initialization errors at the payment stage.

I should mention that I added $100 to my Steam Wallet a few days ago to make the process easier. It still sucked.

As rough as this is it wasn't nearly as bad as my experience ordering the Steam Deck.....

3

Glad they sold out so fast. Now I can't impulse buy one and can wait for the reviews.
