I always heard them called granddaddy long legs, which really cuts the sexual tension right out of it

Given the post's title they could mean these which do have 8 legs (and are arachnids) but are not spiders, or these which are actually spiders.

For 6 legs, perhaps you are thinking of Crane flies?

What are you doing back there step-spider?!

Um... maybe we should walk that name back, just a tad?

I think that depends on the location. I have seen 4 different species called granddaddy long legs in my life. None of them seem to have overlapping territory. At least 2 of them were definitely spiders. The little ball guy that exists in the Midwest I don't think would qualify as a proper spider, but I'm not an entomologist

Title does say "harvest... guy", so harvestman. Which are not spiders.
