[LoP] Before I start Overture (the DLC)

I'm finally about to have some time to lock in on some video games. One of the things I wanted to start on was the Lies of P DLC, Overture. After months of occasionally putting in 10-20 minutes, I have an NG file at Chapter 9, right when Overture becomes accessible.

Should I do anything particular in preparation for Overture? Should I try to push the game to the end before starting the DLC, for balancing's sake? For reference, I have already completed the base game and all of its endings in NG and NG+.

Lastly, should I hoard any upgrade materials? I'm worried that I'm going to get excited to play the DLC and everything is going to literally one shot me, no exaggeration. No spoilers or combat advice please, just feedback on the above questions! Thanks!

It is balanced for endgame but they added that difficulty option in the settings menu which will put the damage values right to about the level you are when you gain access to that DLC stargazer.

the difference is kind of astounding. I was pretty mad at how the game was suddenly forcing me to play until I swallowed my pride and hit that switch. then everything was back to normal.

other than that, just have 1 or 2 weapons that you've upgraded according to your progress. you'll fight a couple things that are going to force you to switch now and again

So it's going to be ridiculously difficult if I bring my chapter 9 gear into the DLC? I have an old save backup set right before starting NG+, perhaps I should just roll it back and use that one?

I do love a good challenge, as I've also been working on an SL1 no-summons run in Elden Ring over the last couple years (slowly). But I also don't have the same amount of time to just throw myself at a problem nowadays.

Not if you bump the difficulty down. In retrospect I'm pretty sure that's why they even added the option, just because of how well it works out.

if not, it's still doable but you'll find the new non-boss enemies pretty annoying because they attack in large groups, have high health, and have obscure melee attack telegraphing. no shame in trying though and deciding for yourself, I forgot chapter 9 is almost to the end of the game. there's probably only a couple upgrades you don't have

There are two things to point out here: difficulty and lore.

In terms of difficulty, @[email protected] already said it - the DLC is quite tough coming fresh from a NG save file. I had beaten the game three times by the time I got around to playing the DLC and it felt nigh impossible on Legendary Stalker, so I had to turn down the difficulty. It was still very difficult but manageable compared to just zero progress even against the most basic of enemies who two-shot you and come in packs (at least in the early areas). So either prepare to up your doding and parrying game, or bite the bullet and turn the difficulty down.

The other point is minor, but there are a few story beats that change depending on if you've played the DLC prior to getting there. Specifically there are a few lore snippets and dialogues changing when you get to the Isle of the Alchemists. Hope that's not too much of a spoiler. If you want to have the experience of seeing what changes, I'd go for the DLC first and then finish up your playthrough.

If you'd like a slightly less challenging playthrough, you could of course go into NG+ first, get better gear and upgrades and then go for the DLC. Comes down to preference really - both lore-wise as well as difficulty-wise.

You reached the end
