Didn't realize it's digital art at first, looks a lot like pencil. What kind of brushes did you use? I've been trying to learn digital art but always have trouble with brushes.

I just used one of the default pencil brushes in Krita, I think they're fantastic. After doing the pencil outline I used one or two watercolour brushes.

For either purpose I just pick one, and if it's not doing what I want I ctrl+z and try another

I think the most important thing with any brush is getting control of how hard you're pressing down, you should have a light touch unless you want to blow out the brush and make it as dark as possible.

I practice with vertical and horizontal strokes with a relaxed wrist as a warm up

In some combination of default settings, sure. But if you consistently maxed out pen pressure on most brushes then you might want to try to adjust your pen settings. No idea how to do that on tablet style device though, I have only work on desktop.

I only use my tablet on my desktop too, pressure is calibrated but still find it easy to push too hard. It's a coordination issue for me
