In accordance with material dialectics we must understand that the political positions of the workers are determined in part both by their material conditions and by constant capitalist conditioning. Therefore there are multiple means by which reactionary ideology can be removed from the workers (including but not limited to):
Improved material conditions which naturally create the conditions for revolutionary thought
Direct worker participation which leads to the worker forming a stronger connection to their fellow workers
Media as a tool to disseminate mass class consciousness (propoganda)
Education as a means of promoting revolutionary thought, see how Vietnam and China teach dialectics and theory in school

The idea being that you can provide for someone and aid their finding their way back to the path of goodness, but you will not listen until they're a ways along that path. So yes. Fascists will get access to food, water, and healthcare, but they should NEVER be allowed near the guns, ammo, and political stations that they abused us with until they show true repentance for the harm they have done us. it is for everyone, or rather everyone has a role within it, and for fascists it should be reeducation or else. what is the goal of leftism? is it to play purity games and moral grandstanding or is to permanently effect a worldwide change? we cannot allow right wing ideologies equal space. the pressure to conform must be intense or do you not have any real principles? there isn't a way to spread racist propaganda that minorities are subhuman under communism, because methods to do so have been eliminated or controlled. we have all of modern human history to observe what happens when power is centralized, when wealth is prioritized, and when profit becomes the ultimate goal above all else. whatever system you call it (feudalism, mercantilism, capitalism) and by whichever means it happens (conservatives, liberals, socdems) it is deadly for human society. it must be eradicated as an idea worth pursuing. it should be seen as absolutely absurd by everybody capable of thought. those who resist need to be reeducated until they agree with the basics of human fucking dignity.
communism is for everyone, and fascists and their collaborators don't get to participate with the rest of us until they demonstrate genuine change.

Because if we do, they will come back. They always do. After the Civil War we just let the slave owners and the Confederates go, and they came back with the Klan and Jim Crow. After the civil rights movement we just let the Klan and their politicians go, and they came back with "tough on crime" and "states rights" and now they're wearing masks and murdering people in the street again.
We can't do this anymore. When we defeat them again, and we will, we can't let them regroup. Marx said it himself: "We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror."
That's exactly how you get fascist takeovers. You dismiss them as impotent, foolish and misguided, extremist fringes, vocal minorities, etc., until it's too late. Have you learned absolutely nothing from even just the past two decades in the US??

I think some of the other commenters have made some great points, but I mainly replied anything because your idea that society could function by tolerating the existence of fascists is foolishly optimistic and one doesn't have to look very far into the past at all to see why.
If you are part of one of the unlucky minorities, fascists are actively trying to kill you. That's not something easily forgivable when your life is on the line every single day just for the fact of being the "wrong" type of "different".
Well yeah, any reactionary is a product of the current society and superstructures that shape everyone's ideologies. They're victims of the current state of things as much as anyone else is.
I'm really hoping we'll get to see real movement rise again and win within our lifetimes and leave reactionary thought or fascism no reason to exist instead of the farce that leftism and rightism is today

As a result i bet most of these fascists will be capable of having mentally healthier lives resulting in them sobering up and stop being fascists.
For most it is a mental disorder and it can be cured with proper education and currently unaffordable therapy.
