I do the borders first to remove them from the free pieces and remove some noise. The i start with the very center and work my way out. I occasionally get distracted by other areas if I see patterns in some of the remaining pieces.
It provides a different challenge than a typical image-based jigsaw. As you can see, the pieces are all pretty unique. So instead of looking for an image on a piece, you look for specific shapes and patterns.

Being that your particular puzzle here is all one solid color, I bet it was a right pain to assemble..
