What meditation/chill music do you put on to ground yourself?

Hey y'all!

I'm trying to add more tools to my arsenal to just quiet down and ground myself, and make it easier to start and stay in meditation.

I find that Andean pan flute and such has really helped me in the past, but I can't find any good albums/playlist or songs anymore. Leo Rojas has some nice tunes, but also some way too active ones.

An example of something that really makes me melt is the beginning of this instrumental:

Just waves, no unnecessary stuff at the side with a different tempo or volume, etc.

But this thread isn't just about me! Please feel free to share what music helps you to ground, relax and find calm. I'm sure it can be useful for other folx browsing. :)

Thank you!

Check out “Deep Blue Day” by Eno. That’s always one of my go-to tracks.

Very chill! I'm probably too influenced by the still image, but it gives off space/cosmic vibes :)

Older (i.e. 2000s and early 2010s) hypnotic techno. I do 30 mins of deep breathing exercises 3 times a day, while listening to it, to try and maintain a sense of calm throughout the day.

Realise my music choice probably isn’t what most people would classify as “chill”. I mainly listen to electronic music so I find it easy to lose myself into the extremely repetitive percussion and melody.

Absolutely stunning, especially the first two! It kinda makes me think of Made in Heights, like the song viices, though there are still strong differences.

Thank you for sharing!

I have enjoyed a soft murmur on days where I need to focus. A soft murmur is a neat little website where you can build your own soundscape. You can even subscribe to access the full sound library. I have used this site on off for at least a decade.

The free version is great already btw. For years I used singing bowl, birds, rain and waves as my soundscape. After I became a subscriber I got into crickets and frogs xD

As far as I know, this is an initiative by one guy so if you decide to subscribe, the money goes to him. He has a bio on the site that describes the story behind the website and his mission with it, but I don't remember it super well. Haven't used it since October because my life has been a hectic mess haha.

Could you please share some albums/songs of that? This is exactly what I'm personally looking for, but looking via my streaming service or youtube I'm overwhelmed by crap that's probably mostly AI.

mynoise is my favourite noise generator site. every sound across hundreds of different generators is organically sourced by the owner, which sounds hyperbolic but it's not.

I've come across it a while ago, even got it on my phone. But I don't really understand how it works, or what the sliders really do :(

slrpnk.net

the sliders are just the overall volume for the individual noise tracks. best way to see this in action is going through all the presets on the left. i'll reinstall the app real quick to remind myself how that works there.

ETA: oh it's literally a button labeled "presets". you can also bring up the slider labels with a long hold on the circle, or mouse-over on desktop.

Thank you! I honestly played a bunch around with it before, and read a bunch of text on their website but didn't get it 😅

Cool gif and thanks for sharing!

The lyrics are also pretty cool. I know there will be moments/moods where this song will hit me hard :)

To be honest the only words I can make out are "unplug the microphone, a different shade of [...]" and "slide, slide, slide down the water slide." and I still love it. Glad you appreciated it!

I've always found post rock/metal to be pretty grounding to me.

  • explosions in the sky (your hand in mine)
  • pg.lost (along the edges)
  • the evpatoria report (taijin kyofusho)
  • red sparowes (in illusions of order)

few of my favorites. although i feel like the albums are worth listening through end to end as a lot of them transition and have a sort of journey element to them, if that makes sense

Stuff like this

"The Man Who Made a Monster Song by Dance With the Dead ‧ 2017"

Float in the direction of the notes. You can keep your mind quite empty.

Khruangbin - Con Todos El Mundo, and I also have a playlist I keep adding to called Remain Calm

Playlist with East Forest, Porangui, Aphex Twin. I call it my KetaMix.

Checking out East Forest's Orbit album, pretty cool! I think it could go into MycologyMix too :)

Hah! I just started my amanita journey but I've kept my eye on the psilocybins. I know there's good things there but one step at a time.
