I remember trying to reccomend The Prestige to some friends. They were bored and gave up like 1/4 of the way through.

PLEASE watch The Prestige. Its so good (I hope. Its been probably 10 years since I watched it, but I'm 99% sure its still good)

That was the night I finally watched a Fast and Furious movie. Started with movie 8, and maaan. That was dumb*. Winning a race, engine on fire, in reverse, great first impression of the franchise.

*dumb does not mean bad. If I had the money and storage space, I would 100% collect every Nic Cage movie. Con Air is dumb, but I love it. You're allowed to love the Fast movies, but they are not my thing

I suppose it's the movie's onus to be more entertaining than other options.

For me, it's not my phone, it's books, which I read on a tablet, but that's beside the point. The point is, new movies are trash. I get past the first ten minutes in one out of twenty.

Fortunately, there are plenty of old movies, gems like Our Man in Havana, which I watched for the first time a couple of nights ago. It stars Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sam the Snowman.

I think the issue is that movies aren’t paced like videos on the internet. So if a movie slows down, it is tempting to just “scroll to the next video”.

Star Wars is a good example cause it starts super strong, but then slows way the hell down. If you pull out your phone the second it slows down, you are going to be taken out of the mood the movie wants you to be in. Then when it gets exciting again, you’re not going to be in it as much as you would be if you were in a theater watching it.

I have watched many movies and shows and got to the end and thought it was boring. I could tell you everything that happened, but could also tell you all the top posts on Reddit during the last 2 hours.

You reached the end

You only have one opportunity to watch a movie for the first time. Don't fuck it up. | Spyke
