It's way ahead of everyone else and will be the first in the line of fire.

Very ironic use of war propaganda, considering that Microsoft's market model is closer to the colonial powers that usually use this format - and the fact that linux often attracts anarchists due to its open, collaborative design.

Is there specific war propaganda this is mirroring? Propaganda isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's very helpful in revolutionary resistance movements. Is this mirroring something specific or are you just talking about the aesthetics of it?

Famously, peaceful movements don't use a lot of propaganda posters.

Maybe we ask Shepard Fairey to do one for us? Or just some psychedelic 70's concert poster with distros?

Edit: Don't crucify me for using AI:

Edit 2: People downvoting, I was using AI as the tool it's meant to be - a quick first draft, proof of concept to sort out ideas. I'm not going to spend hours mocking up both of these for a comment on a meme. I will spend time on one of them, maybe, later. Real human time with 10 fingers and eyes that aren't all squishy.

I like the style and mistakes of the 60s style one. Elemen Tart Os, KaLLLinux, the guitar strings at the headstock

Thanks for actual feedback.

I also like the style, but the concert poster version would be much easier to mock-up in gimp. Though, it looks like most psychedelic concert posters were for single acts, not festivals, as would work best for a lineup of distros. I'll see what happens.

2

in this case, the proper human artist would also be hallucinating

1

JFC, I'm using it NOW to make a real version! It was a proof of concept use! Y'all are so blinded by hate.

3

(openSUSE represented in a meme? What a day!)

Imagine a KDE destroyer (kestroyer?) shattering your Windows from miles away!

Linux users, united?

People in this community will cry over what init system or desktop environment somebody else uses.

Yeah, because they have the freedom to even make those choices in the first place, lmao.

You can be united under democracy and by necessity still disagree over different ideas

Listen "friend", I don't take kindly to you critiquing my choice in text editor like that when you've clearly chosen a slightly different one. I think it might be best if you just move along.

I don’t understand what I’m looking at. Who is carrying the flags? The ship? The planes?

16

Yeah! I'll throw an edit to this response later! Just got to an event and the edible just kicked in. Have a great night!

Now that you mention it, I see it too, but it really does look like a blocky android xD

The only one I cannot remember off the top of my head right now is the one directly behind Kali. I'm gonna have to check online because I think I know what it is, but I know it's not Whonix.

Did some looking while writing this comment and can't find it right now, so I'll probably leave an edit when I do.

4

Yeah. Looks like I completely missed it because DistroWatch has a different logo design without all the colours. Thanks.

Examples of those who do not fight for freedom quite to the fullest of the original ideal?

Too many. In distribution, arguably pretty much any that are not on this list: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html (and more, and more info, here: https://www.gnu.org/distros/ ).

Examples of individuals... pretty much any who say "open source" instead of "free software" (or "software libre").

While Linus Torvalds often emphatically reaffirms he made the right decision to use the GNU GPLv2 for the Linux kernel's license, you may notice he also falls into this category of "open source" advocacy. So then, the title of this post, "United, Linux fights for freedom!" causes a wry smile for more than just the "United". ;D

1

I worked on United Linux.

It was an over-engineered mess with half its guts ripped out before it was kicked over a fence at us -- SuSE-style 'collaboration'.

is there a freedom os thats basically only {distro} but only open source drivers and theming that looks like union posters?

1

Yeah... this is way too similar in style to legit Nazi propaganda for me to engage with.

I'm found of debian; however, a community that define free as "free to use you code to be used by military", is not fighting for freedom
