RAM prices will impact all computers, including consoles, so while it will undoubtedly negatively impact sales, at least it will impact them across the board.

Haha true true, but they'd be in a whole lot more trouble if it didn't.

... You... don't think they already locked in at least an initial tranch of component supply, retooled their factory and warehousing spaces, and have been churning some number of these things out... for some weeks or months already?

You normally don't uh, instantly assemble tens or hundreds of thousands of computers, the week before product launch... you work out an entire time line of prep for sourcing, assembly and storage, you do that quarters before hand, and then start doing assembly, and then release when you think you have enough to sate initial demand.

And you'll even do parts of that before the design spec itself is totally finalzed in all ways, often times.

Also....the Steam Machine uses LPDDR5 RAM, as the Steam Deck does.

Its already, literally physically soldered onto the mainboard.

The most rational explanation I can think of is that it's a planted leak to figure out who's leaking.

Either that or just extreme wishful thinking.

THIS JUST IN: Person says thing, gives no evidence.

We'll be back at 11 for your evening updates!

Not the first time I've heard this. There was a leak that was very quickly deleted where it mentioned Valve were using some type of custom GPT for calculating physics (instead of for LLMs). So instead of doing actual complex physics calculations for environmental destruction, a GPT type AI would be doing it.

Obviously its to go in tandem with their current physics, just offloading specific stuff to the AI. It's apparently very good.

Source is trust me bro, but we'll find out soon enough I guess.

Coming in now with a live news update: another person says a different thing, gives no evidence.

We'll be back with the morning announcements

I hereby pledge to donate 500€ to ablegamers if HL3 becomes a launch title for the Gabe Cube. This is not a joke.

Still pretty sure my money is safe and it will be released after Winds of Winter. Which in turn will be released after the heat death of the universe.

If it does come out, you should post a screenshot shot of this message and your donation receipt in pcgaming.

That’s the plan. Kinda. Honestly I really don’t believe this article or any other bs with their HL3 leaks. Shit got old 20 years ago.

But IF it happens: I will.

Just to be clear, I down voted this because it's an article about rumors originating from unnamed sources being talked about by a gaming journalist via his podcast. May as well just print the article out and wipe your ass with it.

So what would the major innovation be? Running native under Linux? That seems too little focused on the game itself.. Would it be the vr? That doesn't seem novel enough given Alyx..

Edit: Oh no. Is it going to be AI of some sort? AI dialogue or something?

Edit 2: Co-op vr campaign? With a game director like in l4d, but then much more sophisticated

From the Source engine updates analyses, I think it’s going to be voxels (thus deformable world), a physics engine to support voxels, fluid stimulation, fire simulation, acoustics simulation, NPC AI emotional simulation and adding senses like smell to NPCs.

Story wise this could make sense. There was a ship stuck in ice right. Perhaps destroying, removing or deforming the snow and ice is going to be part of it?

Okay you know what, I think I'd be equally excited about that. Give me that non-Microsoft Minecraft in a beautiful hackable Linux supported engine

I've played a fair bit of Luanti! I've found myself rather obsessed with Vintage Story lately though which isn't quite as free as Luanti but its source-readable (as in the code is available but the license restricts its usage for anything) and has a modding framework

Steam consistently have been pretty anti-AI, not banning it, but heavily suggesting not to play games which use it.

So very much doubt AI.

If anything it would be Source Engine updates, HL1 was an elaborate tech demo, at its heart. As was HL2, to a lesser extent.

2

Ricochet 2 will be sort of Valve's Smash Brothers with all the characters from Half Life, Portal, Team Fortess and Left4Dead... and it will be cannon tied in a single Valve's Multiverse.

Still not "3" for any of them tho.

The devs explicitly stated in the HL2 commentary that HL3 was not being worked on and that they had no plans on resuming development.

9

They have repeated that line in more recent interviews, also. The last big news that had any official statements about it was that the writer had some ideas, but the way Valve operates he can't get enough interested team members together to actually do anything. Nobody else really wants to work on it; they have other interesting projects they would prefer to work on.

6

This is your reminder that there were more credible leaks for HL3 when the Xbox 360 was the flagship console.

7

Fuck so I definitely need to replace the broken graphic card :-/
