Yeah it was a bit over filled for the size of the empanadas, I don't generally deep fry things so I didn't really notice until I started putting them in, so I just took it slow and only ran 2 at a time

I forgot that there are savory empanadas, many that I run into are sweet with caramel or fruit filling.

The savory ones are basically meatpies, so I'd say empanadas are little pies.

If there is a real Mexican restaurant (vs tex-mex or new mex-mex) or Hispanic grocery store near you, you might be able to find one. Dulce de Leche seems to be a popular flavor

My first time in Montevideo had me cringing at going from "quiero este empanada emparedado" to "este sanguiche"

FYI I had a brainfart, putting empanada instead of emparedado.

Anything between two slices of bread is a sandwich. A slice of bread between two slices of bread is a sandwich. It's a bread sandwich. Fry bread is bread. So, yes, empanadas are sandwiches.

This is, at best, one oblong slice of bread folded in half and fused together at the edges before it technically became bread, so I don't think your definition applies here.
