I have few things to say.

  • firstly I might be trippin but does your sysfetch say you have 17.4 Gb of RAM? HOW?
  • also I see you're using bash. at this point you might as well try zsh with omz.
  • and why VScode when already you are using neovim (or other terminal code editor)? If you reeeally need the ecosystem try Codium. I doesn't have all the exstenaions but if it has the one you need it is less bloated vscode (and gentoo users hate bloat)

also the setup is nice ig

bash is copyleft. zsh is permissive. Therefore, bash is superior.

@alsaaas @Gwen I've actually looked a bit into fish before, but didn't switch

does the lack of posix compliance not cause issues in practice? like, has it ever broke some script you wanted to run?

3

It's its own language, but it doesn't break existing e.g. bash scripts because you declare them to be bash with #!/bin/bash in the first line right? So your shell doesn't matter. Also you can always nest shells and just run bash if you really need it

You just shouldn't set it as your login shell because of that, they have tutorials on that on their website and the Arch wiki explains it too

4

+1 for scripting with fish. Reduced the LOC in my scripts collection by probably 50%, while increasing legibility/maintainability by probably at least 100%. Absolute beast of a lang.

igpu

My bet is they have 24GB total with 6GB dedicated to the iGPU.

Darn it, that was my next guess. 4GB soldered + 16GB since it's a laptop with a U series chip?

4

@Cort Yeah exactly, I wish the other slot wasn't soldered to the board, then my total memory could be a nice power of two

1

@e0qdk YES!

It's the triple baka pack for sm64coopdx, and it's the best thing I discovered this month, it even has online multiplayer.

yooo Niko oneshot

Curious, do you just play The World Machine edition or do you use some kind of setup to play Oneshot

@KSPAtlas niko oneshot mentioned!

It's actually been some years since I finished that game, I was still using windows back then so I played the original steam version.

I'm pretty sure some puzzles would break in a window manager only setup, I mean, I don't even have a "Desktop" directory now, but I vaguely remember it working on KDE, so it's probably not impossible to fix.

Have you done the clover after finishing the game thing?

Nice Setup and Picture and also the lighting!

Seriously though, how do you take such pictures? I tried and failed multiple times already. Too dark, bad angles, blinding lights, you name it.

@VegOwOtenks tysm!

lol I guess when you take 50+ different pics you're bound to get some good ones

if you actually want the details, my friend was holding the camera behind me to get this angle, we also turned off the lights, so the screens appeared brighter, and used only a star projector thingy for the faint purple glow

I think the downward-facing light bar at the top of your monitor is the real key here, illuminating your desk and all the things on it, socks included.

2

@HakunaHafada True, at first I thought the white light bar would just make everything seem kinda washed out, but I guess it actually works really well.

What's that tiler?

Low-key jealous of you having so many windows on a big screen.

Hello! It's a small world after all :D

What else do we have in common?

1

Alright, now you have to send me some songs.

I do like all kinds of music, from alternative to death metal and everything between, if it's a good song.

Do you play games? PC or tabletop?

Is that a little cat's paw button behind the keyboard? What does it do?!

3

I'm pretty vanilla with Arch on my regular work Laptop but I definitely love tinkering with Gentoo... Maybe it is time though for a primary GentOwO machine tho...

Nice post! We definitely need more content in this community (and in Lemmy as a whole as well)

You look great OP! Cute and cozy.

1

@beSyl thx <3

100% agree btw, seeing the unixsocks community go more than a month with no new content is what compelled me to finally make an account and post

1

Presumably you didn't know that hifetch exists, you can backend it via fastfetch to make it fast. The big plus is that you can give it flag colours.

@hameru @unixsocks also how do you game with all the other stuff taking up screen space?! :guilded_lul: if i have a screen like that i want to get the most out of it playing retro games or video games in general
