[answered] - [question] Searching for a book where a group of friends hunts people (thriller)

Edit: I found it! It is "Open Season by David Osborn."

Original:

Hey ☺️

A few years ago I read a book where a group of friends kidnapped strangers to hunt them down. It was a yearly (?) event for them. They went to a cabin and released the victims into the woods. After a given time they started stalking them. It was set in the US. They basically pretended to be just old school friends having a traditonal reunion weekend in their cabin.

I could have sweared it was just called "Hunting Season." However, I do not find it under this name. Same goes for "Killing Season."

If I recall correctly, the book was released in the 70s, maybe the 80s.

Is anyone of you able to identify that book?

Thank you so much!

Thank you for your reply. But none of that relates to said book. Apart from the very common trope, yes.

Yes, and I feel like I watched an episode like that in at least 3 different TV shows. Usually crime stuff, but one Black Mirror episode is also somewhat similar.

INTERNET:

  • <insert history lesson on the tropes in asker's question>
  • Have you tried this other thing that's in an entirely different media?
  • How about this other thing that's in a different media again?
  • How about more things from different media that are not related to the question?
