What's the deal with the downvotes?

I checked the community rules, just to be sure, and there is no rule against male posts. But every time a man posts an image, it is immediately downvoted.
I understand that some people might not be interested in seeing that, (I'm more of a boobs guy myself) but there are gender tags on every post. It shouldn't be a surprise when you click on a post with an [M] in the title and see a cock n balls.
Feel free to avoid the penises if you aren't interested, but why discourage the guys who are willing to share with people who are interested in seeing that?

I downvote for surprise dick. Seems much more common that men don't put gender in the title, or I dont notice when women fail to do it

And I can't browse NSFW from my lemmy.world account anymore, either.
I could browse the already subscribed communities, but couldn't find new ones.
Everything I looked at threw an error or had no posts, even previously subbed... subs.

That's the way our instance works. Lemmy.world has downvotes (also in the lemmynsfw communities), lemmynsfw doesn't.
If I see a dick I just block the account, problem solved. Same as the rest of the shit I don't want to see.
It's kind of sad that there is no way to only hide posts but not the comments made by a specific account. Otherwise I'd love to do that.

I think that only really applies when viewing from lemmynsfw. Other instances will still record upvotes and down votes on lemmynsfw posts but lemmynsfw itself doesn't view them. At least that is what I read a while back.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but I'm seeing negative scores and I don't see how that could happen if downvotes weren't subtracting from that.
At this very moment I see six down votes and 3 ups on this post.
LemmyNSFW disabled down votes, the down votes that we see are because our instances still allow down votes on posts. If you viewed the post on LemmyNSFW, you would only see the up votes.
There has been a lot of discussion about allowing down votes on LemmyNSFW.
Thanks for the clarification. I switched from Reddit over 2 years ago, and I still don't completely understand all the intricacies of Federation.
I like to think the Fediverse is the multiverse version of X (Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram. etc) Each instance is it's own universe and we can dimension hop to other universes to see what is going on.
Downvotes aren't enabled or federated on Lemmynsfw and don't affect the total score. The only reason you see them is because you're coming to the instance from an external instance. Because posts are proxied locally you will see downvotes that have been done locally only by other World users because they are enabled on your home instance, but that's all. The actual downvotes don't get sent to us on Lemmynsfw and to other instances by extension.

Yup! It's just because Lemmy.World is a large instance that it seems so impactful for you. Other instances see different downvotes totals.

I agree that its pretty shitty that people do that. You shouldn't be down voted for them not reading the title. A possible innocent explanation is that the dick pics aren't particularly good, I have heard anecdotally that a lot of people who like penises would be happier if the angles and settings of many dick pics were better. That said I don't really believe its innocent, more likely internalized homophobia that hasn't been super processed.
I guess we also aren't allowed to even talk about naked men. 🤷🏻♂️
This is pretty much the exact reason they're disabled in the first place, because people are kind of assholes. But to be fair, this post should probably be downvoted because it's a meta post in an image only community 😝
I thought about that as well, but it's not like there's anywhere else to directly ask questions about this specific community. I guess I could have added a dick pic, but we all know how that would go. 😂
