They would never dream of killing the filibuster unless they knew for sure that nobody but the GOP will ever have a majority ever again.
Republicans have consistently decreased the power of the filibuster when they are in office. It's just a matter of time.

The filibuster disproportionately benefits the GOP anyway. Their MO is status quo, prevent reform, do nothing, dismantle. They will always use it more. It's why we have no public option for Medicare. And it's been used excessively since Obama.
The idea that consequences would be "coming soon" instead of seeing that the shutdown is already affecting people since day one just shows how disconnected the couch fucker (and the whole rightwinger mafia he is part of) is from reality.
