They are consumables so you can just say you used the up if anyone asks.
As a person who is difficult to buy for (not because I want special things but because I don't really want anything), candles are ideal as I either like them and use them, or can say I did. Much better that something I am expected to wear or constantly display in my home.
There aren't many things you CAN'T do that with.
Almost like it's their intended purpose.
If I don't like them it's probably because it's scented and makes my allergies go nuts 😟

They're a terrible gift. I have a zillion candles they I keep around and can't quite get around to throwing away

i have irritant-induced asthma and if there's a lit candle in the room with me I breathe significantly worse and have to cough a lot
scented is very noxious, because they have chemicals in it to volatilize the scents. usually aromatic carbons(benzene structure) or alcohols.
I like giving bacon scented candles to my vegan friends to remind them of what they’re missing.

Most of the candle is designed very specifically so that it will not, in fact, catch fire and burn.
