Hey now, as a 40-year-old, I find myself heavily invested in the Zachtronics Solitaire Collection on my phone—oh no. I’ve become an old solitaire lady.

NOOOOOOOOOOO

I love some basic stupid shit like moving colorful blocks when I’m half watching some basic stupid shit on tv, with a drink handy.

Was laughing at the meme, realized the only game I play on my phone is solitaire, flipping colorful blocks.

I didn't know that was on mobile.... Interesting. I want to love Zachtronics games, but I'm so bad at them lol. I usually enjoy the solitaire games though.

I could never seem to get my head around Merge Maestro. It's on my phone and paid for though. Maybe I'll give it another go.

It's pretty nice that a game of it isn't neverending and doesn't take all too long since defeating it is only 15 rounds, but it does take a lot of reading descriptions of all the different symbols and really thinking about how they'll work with what you have at the time so you have to give it more mental focus than your typical candy crush type of game. Steeper learning curve and more mentally stimulating, which could either be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you like.

It's more fun with real cards. Not as convenient, but if you pull out a deck and start playing in public, someone will stop to talk.

That’s why I keep this tiny stone-paper notebook with handwritten instructions on my favorite games, along with a narrow little air deck and a few counters.

Apologies for my handwriting, but my hands aren’t what they used to be.

Thanks! It’s quite comfy to play with, and rides along real smooth in my bag. I know they’re out of production, but air decks can still be found here and there if you look hard enough. I picked mine up for fifteen dollars each—not bad for a PVC deck that I’ve had for like six years now.

(Also yes, I used an em-dash, no, I’m not AI, I just like em-dashes.)

There was this one Tetris like mobile game ad that had awesome sound effects in the advertisement, ASMR worthy.

So I downloaded it and it was nothing like the ad, and the sound sucked.

Uninstalled and my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined.

why do mobile ads always show terrible games, but when you wanna try the game its a different terrible game?

GenX caught plenty. Dad had a car that ran on regular gasoline.

I think more and more, mobile games are just ad vehicles.

Yeah, flash games were our peak. Most games on phones nowadays are exactly that.

Merge Maestro is awesome. The free version is good free, and full version is $2. No in app purchases.
