Or just use Debian, if you really enjoy the sluggishness and shitty dependency management of APT.
Alternatively you could switch to Arch and the glory that is pacman (or, even better, yay).

For a main desktop, absolutely.
For low maintenance servers and vms? Staying with Debian.
For a laptop on which Arch gives issues (mine where with battery when standby). POP-OS has been working well.
No, that's fair. I wouldn't recommend Arch for server use. Debian has its place, and I respect that.

My home server runs OpenSUSE Leap and I've quite enjoyed it.
Yeah. I use Arch on my gaming PC. But on my laptop-converted-to-a-NAS I use OpenMediaVault (Which is Debian based)
There are 2 wolves inside you.
One uses the yay and can install anything from AUR.
The other can install propreitery .deb packages your university vpn comes in to submit homeworks.
There is a crow pulling both wolves by the tail called "bedrock linux" that can install packages using both apt and aur.
The crow is the most dangerous.
Bedrock Linux requires you to change distro.
Let me introduce you to distrobox. It containerizes the distro of choice, and allows you to install any software of any distro, without messing any system files.
Regarding the VPN case though, I haven't tested it, but I would rather install any kind of proprietary software inside a VM. Steam may be an exception.

You can just make an AUR package that downloads and installs the .deb

which memeNo, thanks. I like my distro not to break with updates ever. Arch breaks stuff every few months at least. I know cause I have used it. Also I prefer to just have fewer updates in general.

Tbf, you can always run arch in distrobox and just use the AUR from there if you prefer fedora. I personally do though with gnome.

let me see if I understood this straight, someone replaced a core library which caused apt to rightfully to belive the package is not there which caused all packages that depend on it to be marked for autoremoval as expected
The server software world is debian based. Fortunately/unfortunately.

This is a messed up meme 😂 When I first into'd ubuntu, I really thought I was big-brained for choosing LTS over the more current release. Mentors are so much more important than you'd think when you're 14ish

That explains some of the instability in Pop!_OS 24.04… Programs suddenly closing, session dying upon unlock. Bluetooth turning on by itself sometimes. Glad to know it isn't haunted, though

Yes, it is Beta. Not a horrible experience overall, despite being Beta. The Bluetooth thing can be a tad annoying, when my headphones randomly scream "connected" in my ears. Windows closing can also be a tad annoying, and the death of my active session moreso (akin to all windows closing together. Combo!)
