This, but also isn't that how genetics works? You're not going to see a native Chihuahua thriving in the arctic.

(But it's probably something about what countries actually do testing, etc. )

countries will higher autism rates have better healthcare… aka higher rates of accurate diagnosis….
also, lower rates of autistic kids being killed due to inconvenience.

1

Well when you look at Europe you see that the countries that make up the majority of the countries that colonized America have the higher autism rates too

This reminds me of how we beat covid by not testing for it anymore

Tell me you don't understand sample selection bias without saying you don't understand sample selection bias.

My favorite part:

Some culture-bound syndromes appear with similar features in several cultures, but with locally specific traits, such as penis panics.

Obviously it's because people in Africa and south America don't have access to paracetamol.

Yeah if this instance is going to become a place to post disinformation, I’m out. I came here to escape reddit, not double down on its worst aspects.

13

It's a place to deconstruct disinformation. Discussing why things are wrong can be more important than just facts.

Calm down, you're in a memes channel, and OP here posts science memes all the time. I'm very sure this is satirical

14

If you block OP, you have basically left the community, as OP is this community. Either way, I’m fairly certain OP is posting this as in “look at how dumb this is.” It’s a science memes community.

16

If you see this comment, it could be interesting to get an idea of how many people:

a) Thought OP posted this in like a "Look at how dumb this is" way, or,

b) Thought OP agreed with the idea presented in the image.

I think this might have to do with communication climates (I am so far from an expert in anything) and how a climate of disagreement with peers and prevalent media can affect how a message is received. In other words, if surrounded by stupid people with stupid ideas it's easy to assume the next stupid idea has come from a stupid person.

Poe's Law. Without a clear indicator, a lot of people took it as OP believing this.
