For years, some on the extreme right have promoted the conspiracy theory that the U.S. military is in possession of technology — in the form of magic “med beds” — which can singlehandedly cure any disease and extend human life. The beds can supposedly even regrow missing limbs within minutes.

that the military really is in possession of such a device.

The side effects of using that thing would explain how crazy some of the billionaire types have been getting of late I suppose...

That’s the real reason he created the Space Force

27

Shh, don't distract him when he's starting to get the point. No matter how nuts he might be, if this plants the idea that the orange one supports healthcare for all in the minds of his followers, it might move some in the right direction.

No wonder Trump wants to remove any and all AI regulations, it makes it easier for him to grift people.

36

So I take it this dipshit finally got around to watching Elysium? Surely his handlers should know by now that you shouldn't let Donny watch movies by himself after dark.

He didn't pick up on the theme of the commons defeating authoritarianism and only noticed the magic medical beds.

It’s like thinking Star Wars is all about cool glow stick fights. I mean, it is, but it’s about other stuff too.

15

It's about pew, pew too.

Actually after Andor my Star Wars perspective has shifted. Any Star Wars from the epic to the small is about hope, and that anyone can contribute their part to change. Sometimes a person is a big part of that, sometimes just a small piece, but they're all important.

Wow, Trump wouldn't like that, would he? That is, if he could possibly pick up on that theme.

14

What like trade federations and the legal structures which allow that and similar federations to thrive? Action packed galactic senate debate?

Which version of med bed? The alien origin ones or the advanced earth civilization hidden under Mount Shasta?

20

There's also the third option of "we saw a diagram of a monopolar electrosurgical unit at one point and decided that was magic that can cure stuff".

Ok, so was that video entirely AI and he saw it and posted it thinking maybe he was interviewed for it and forgot… or is that video real and he was actually interviewed and this was a real news clip?

20

The Fox News studio posted a statement, saying the clip was never aired on their channel. The entire news clip is AI, not just the part with Trump talking.

12

I just think it’s ai voices over mostly real clips and obvious stock footage. If you make a cut every second of two no one can even tell that video doesn’t belong to the audio

But then, I have no interest in going framed by frame. I can see how this would fool someone as moronic as anyone to the right of left

My grandmother actually believes that this "med bed" bullshit is real. It's not going to do anything.

19

It's not going to do anything.

I bet it will do one thing: Separate idiots from their money. There will inevitably be scammers who target the elderly, claiming that their medbed card was delayed because they owe back taxes. Now they need to go buy $5000 in Target gift cards, or else they’ll never be able to access their medbed.

13

Not just the elderly, there's a LOT of chronically and terminally ill people who fall for these scams because at some point, there's a lot of people who are willing to flail your arms and try anything, regardless of how dumb it sounds, rather than having to hear the doctors say "well we can try X for 3 weeks and see what we get out of it" for the 50th time.

7

He must have just watched it. Or one of his sycophants told him about it.

8

This is FANTASTIC NEWS! What's even More Fantastic is that Trump gave MORE Funding to Research and Medicine to make this A REALITY! I DO MY OWN RESEARCH!

So I've just decided that if the president of the United States can literally scam the dumbest people in the world out of money, it's carte blanche for me to do it as well. I'll return to morality if sanity ever returns to the world.

Ah he must've caught parts of reruns of the classified military documentaries SG-1 and NCC-1701D where folks in uniform are clearly seen handling such beds.

12

Elysium as well. I wouldn't put Star Trek into the mix, as there are still diseases and ailments in that universe, they're just a bit more advanced.

5

Bonkers people do bonkers things.

Would you expect a sane output from someone who is about as mentally stable as The Joker.

7

med beds totes real guiz

no you poors can't have any

I see absolutely no way for this to turn out badly.

Ok guys ngl I honestly believe their is a two tier tech system and billionaires have sci-fi level medical access to techniques that stretch lifespan to 120-170

I dunno, I've seen musks torso. That looks like a surgical fuck up to me but maybe he wanted to have the chest of a dumpster

I have no evidence to support this, but I think he took some poorly-researched HGH analogue, but didn't work out at all, so his bones got all fucky, his hair fell out, and he grew no muscle.

Yes

"...and billionaires have sci-fi level medical access to techniques that stretch lifespan to 120-170"

No, but we are getting there. I think it's far more likely these billionaires will start building neural models of themselves so they can outlive their bodies. It will be the modern equivalent of an expensive portrait or statue. It will also be terrifying if left in charge of making decisions for large companies because pride and money.

5

It would also be a cheap imitation, it will not be the immortality they are looking for, science is nowhere near this singularity they are dumping all of this money into.

1

Why does the prez look like crap and his hand is rotting? Why do we see turtles in Congress freezing and needing a reboot?

5

Except none of them have lived that long. They hype everything they do as The Next Big Thing, but none of it has been that in 20 years.

Smartwatches, VR/AR, crypto, Metaverse, AI, smart everything, IoT... There's gotta be a ton more. If those turds had a heal-everything box, they'd use them to make billions.

2

Yeah, no. None of this exists, nor will exist for at least decades to come, same as living beyond 120 years of age
