This is a solid topic ban by being clear that supporting Kirk is a ban and reddit probably sees any criticism of Kirk as advocating violence so there isn't any reason to mention him at all.

/uj Untrue. There are subs with millions of active users that are filled with posts and comments about him on the front page. Even if it were the case though, the right course of action would be to advertise the Fediverse and get people to move.

Edit: Even if you go to r/popular/, it won't require much scrolling to come across a post about Kirk.

It‘s not about bringing him up. The sub is quite big and users tend to be quite cynical and hate the far-right. Chances are high that sitewide rules will be broken.

How do you think subs like Fauxmoi feel about the far-right? Still, he's all over the front page. If reddit rules were truly the problem, why not make use of the AutoMod to review all comments before their publication for the next few days, or do it only for posts that have certain key words relating to Kirk in their titles?

-7

No one knows what fauxmoi is.

Edit. Lmao it's a freaking celebrity gossip reddit sub. No one cares about that shit gethefuckouttahere

I don’t know, mods are volunteers, maybe they don’t want the hassle. There is little reason to think they secretly mourn Kirk.

I wasn't sure you deserved an upvote until Kirk-a-lurk-in. Genius

All the fucking knee jerk censorship is already making people skittery, even on here, to the point where self censoring is starting to be normal.

The fascists are going to come for us regardless of how much we appease them.

Some of y'all need to learn a little common sense regarding what you say out loud and where you say it. Especially if you're still using Reddit, y'all know by now what the admins are like.

lemmy.blahaj.zone

Y'all really want some trouble, all of your posts will be connected to your names due to rapidly increasing availability and power of surveilance algorithms and maybe in the next year you will lose your job because of it. I openly say - out of all the people murdered last week, which might be getting into 3 digits, Kirk is not the one I care the most about, but even if I was celebrating I would not be so open about it

I might sound condescending, but it's not because I consider myself smarter, just that I genuinely am scared - there is so much more direct and open violence in the global north, Trump just straight up ordering death sentences and sending others to concentration camps, but am european, aight. I got to worry about the new chat control project scanning through everything I post. And even if it won't get through, how far are we from an AI scraping the internet to connect all your big sites accounts to your name any time you apply for a job or anything else? Am I stupid for considering it an existential threat?

Maybe we should do something, before it's too late?

1

If they fire us for what we post on lemmy then MAYBE we missed the mark of when it was time to act for our freedom.

1

OP got mad people agree with not touching on some topics in spaces that might get brigaded if they fall out of line and then banned, so they are leaving lemmy, I think

6

There are better communities to talk about it than a sub only vaguely tied to it with loads of people wanting it banned

14
piefed.social

Staying on topic is not censorship. What does he have to do with gaming?

(Besides the fact only the government can take away freedom of speech)

Oh man, before I left Reddit ALL of GCJ was politics. I agree with almost all of it but it was SO fucking annoying anyway. I just wanted some “this is what game design is annoying when this” and got something I would absolutely go to another sub for.

6
sopuli.xyz

That's ALL of Reddit. Go to soccercirclejerk? It's thinly linking anything in football to American politics. Go to pics? It's pictures of American politics. Go to whoadude? It's videos of Americans being political in impressive ways.

Everywhere you go, the American politics are unavoidable. And I'm not American, and I already know that country is almost entering a civil war, and I don't want that to be the only thing I see all day and night.

4

Ahhh thank you. The only other CJ sub I went to before I left was TAZcirclejerk and it didn’t delve much into politics, just how annoying and flanderized a podcast series became hahaha

3

Maybe theyre posting they want him as a mission in the next sniper elite? It would still break the rules tho and give g*mers ammo to ban the sub, bad idea

Staying on topic is different than "don't talk about it so they don't shut us down"

3
Dadiferreply
lemmy.world

Exactly. This public forum is insulated from such threats. That one is not.

0
piefed.social

From what threats?
Are you misunderstandings about basic rights in the room with us now?

Oh shit. They're in the room and all over this post!

2

Remind us all what you think freedom of speech is.

Don't be shy. Did you learn anything today?

  1. Could you summarize the purpose of that sub for me? 2. The suspect was clearly a gamer who made Helldivers 2 references on one of the bullet casings.
-2
piefed.social

The bullet casting nonsense has been retracted. The shooter never left any messages on the casing.

That was all an obvious lie, they got the idea from who ever killed the CEO last year.

I thought it being officially read on a conference is pretty good source that it was real. Did they fabricate it? Can you link an amofficial retraction?

Misunderstanding freedom of speech, ladies and gentlemen.

13
Dadiferreply
lemmy.world

Not being able to talk about it because your speech forum will be destroyed is exactly freedom of speech.

-8
Dadiferreply
lemmy.world

Freedom of speech is not the ability to speak in public?

-5
piefed.social

No it is not.
Freedom of Speech is the right to talk negatively about your government without repercussions.

Lemmy is not your government.

Dadiferreply

I think you all need to think long and hard about our public spaces and who is moderating them.

-1
Zagamreply
piefed.social

What about the forums right to free speech by deciding what they want to publish? Not a single person owes you the right to say what you want. You only have the right (at time of writing) to not be prosecuted for what you say under most circumstances.

4
Dadiferreply
lemmy.world

Who said anything about rights? I am not free to speak about that shitstain person on that shitstain website? Is that not limiting the freedom of my speech?

-6

Who said anything about rights? I

You did, only a couple hours ago:

Freedom of speech, ladies and gentleman

4
Dadiferreply
lemmy.world

? I don't see anything about rights in my statement.

-2

Freedom of speech is specifically a right.

You being willfully ignorant doesn't change anything, other than people's opinions about you.

2
Zagamreply
piefed.social

No, you're not free to say anything anywhere. Are you under any obligation to allow me to enter your home and say anything I want with no repercussion? Show me where it says you have freedom to say anything anywhere under any circumstance. I'll wait.

Also, if you don't understand that "freedom of speech" is quite literally the definition of "right to free speech" you should stop typing and start reading.
