Finally, my first Cantaloupe!
I tried planting edible landscaping this year, but it's been working pretty poorly. I think I need figure out a better way to communicate the expectations with pedestrians.
So far 2 Cantaloupes have been taken well before ripening, an unripe green pumpkin was taken, an unripe bell pepper was taken, and they aren't touching the ripe tomatos or strawberries. So I'm very confused.
Maybe I'm expecting them to have too high of a base knowledge of garden plants? I may just move the garden inside the fence and build a small pantry instead.

they took a tourne knife in one hand, and the cantaloupe in the other hand. then starting from the top they began to spiral cut (poorly) thin shavings of rind.
they must have gone over it three or four times until it was mostly orange.
things didn't get interesting until the melon got all slippery and they not only almost dropped it 10 times, but also cut or stabbed themselves about 50 times.
total time to "peel", just about an hour.
Must truly have been an experience witnessing that.
like a train wreck in slow motion and zero casualties.

I would have taken a tomato. I so miss ripe, fresh tomatoes.
Literally the only kind of raw tomato worth eating, store bought tomatoes are the worst.
I have found my oppostie then. Raw tomatoes are the only type of tomatoes I just cannot eat. I find them revolting.
Sluce em up and put some feta on top and into the pan. Great. Do literally anything that is not raw tomato and I will rat it.
I meant garden fresh tomatoes are the only raw tomato worth eating, processed/cooked tomatoes are great.
I cannot even stand home grown ones. Neither our own ones nor the ones from my grandma. There is just aomething about the sour watery raw tomato that is not to my liking.

That is dead on average for closed cavity cantaloupe.
Some of the galia types would have a cavity of 30% smaller.

The only time I've ever tried to grow these, they were so tiny. Yours looks excellent!
Not sure what I'm doing right but my 2 plants have 12 melons between them. Though the others are probably 6" diameter.
Maybe it's because it's a fresh garden plot and while i do have a turf yard its got a heavy clover mix. So the soil isn't trash.

The measuring tape is labeled, and it's not like I own a metric one.

If you’re ever unsure of the scale, metric tapes are divided into 10 segments per unit. American tapes are divided into 16 segments per unit.

Inches are subdivided in fractions instead of decimals. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 (sometimes you’ll see 1/32 but anything past that typically switches over to decimal since you’re not going to be doing mental math with that size anyways).
I was sure it was inch, but the boneheadness to assume that everyone thinks in inches while only the US does annoys me.

Op assumed that by showing an unlabeled scale, everybody would assume that it uses outdated non-standard units.

How did it taste? Was it better, worse, or comparable to store-bought?
It had a better texture and flavor, but it probably wasn't as sweet as a store bought one, but I could get a sweeter variety and likely win there too.
Honestly everything out of the garden is better than store bought. And I've mostly planted and forgot it, its not like its even hard work.
