I would love to be out this weekend at Perfect North but I have family obligations that noone will cancel until there's snow on the ground. Which will be too late for me to safely drive down.
Went to Perfect North yesterday, it was very slushy. As you can see, I was pretty intimidated by the slope, but I feel like I did a decent job, the turn shape was okay.
The form could use some work, and I could definitely do it with less time spent traversing. Heading to Timberline again this weekend to get a few more days in.
I already feel more confident and sure versus last year. Terrain that was moderately difficult last season felt easy. What a difference an off season makes.
Last night my girlfriend was talking in her sleep and she told me "I've been here the whole time."
Has Sam Riech body snatched my girlfriend? Does he plan to return her? Will I appear on a future episode of dropout where Sam becomes a poltergeist? Or has Dropout America Sam Reich turned into Mr. Beast?
Learn the awnser to these questions and more. Sometime. In the future. Maybe.
We made 11 jars of pickled green tomatoes and 21 jars of salsa. Jars are Pint sized (≈.5 L). Unpictured is the 4 gallons (≈16L) of blanched and frozen red tomatoes that we'll eventually turn into sauce.
This took a while. Every window in the house was fogged.
Overall I think it's a lot of cool stuff that will eventually improve the game, but right now the Expansion Rule book is very thin for how many new mechanics that have been added.
Nowhere are ocean cards defined.
They're formatted like planet cards, so one would assume you use them like planet cards, and thus count as planets. But that would be very strong as that would let you count planets you're coexisting on twice.
But if they aren't planet cards, they're very undefined.
Same is true for Crimson Rebellion Breaches. It seems very weird for an alternative way to make tiles adjacent is only defined on a faction sheet.
Overall I think the new content is great, and Twilight Fall looks very fun. I'm excited to try it, but I wish the new rule books were as through as the old rulebooks.
I tried planting edible landscaping this year, but it's been working pretty poorly. I think I need figure out a better way to communicate the expectations with pedestrians.
So far 2 Cantaloupes have been taken well before ripening, an unripe green pumpkin was taken, an unripe bell pepper was taken, and they aren't touching the ripe tomatos or strawberries. So I'm very confused.
Maybe I'm expecting them to have too high of a base knowledge of garden plants? I may just move the garden inside the fence and build a small pantry instead.
For the 250th anniversery of America (honestly, vomit) the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas and Preserves is reconstructing the maps and transcribing surveyor notes from the 1800s to create an interactive map of Ohio's presettlememt habitats.
I'll be sure to post an update once the map is out.
I keep getting very close to winning as Sardack N'orr. Yesterday's 4 player game ended round 6 with NRA scoring 10 points on Initiative 1, and everyone else already being at 9 points. If I had been able to get thier home system, I could have won as I was next in order to score a public objective. I had already gotten all 3 secret objectives.
I ended up in an outrageously rich slice and stolen several key planets from my neighbors. Leading to me being maxed out in Command tokens and successfully researching both my faction techs as I got the Tech skip Artifact.
The Argent Flight and Nekro Virus both had 2 warsuns at the start of the final round, all of which fell on Mecatol Rex. (4 players games are wild, Argent had them round 3)
My pawpaws saplings I planted last fall are still alive!
They have started budding leaves. I know I'm a few years away from fruit production but I am curious if anyone has found good ways to attract pollinators outside of rotting meat. Not sure the city would be very excited about that prospect.
I am considering making a native carion flower plant garden near the trees to make area more attractive to pollinators prior to the pawpaws flowering. Was wondering it anyone else had tried that idea. I've found 3 somewhat promising options in my area of Ohio.
I've just got Shriek Week and Unsleeping City season 2 left. Its been a long and very fun haul.
I orginally started watching Fantasy High on youtube when I was bedridden from Covid in 2022. And shortly after that, I got the dropout subscription so I could consume Sophmore year. I even got my girlfriend sucked in, Im very excited for the premier of next season next week.
You may remember me from last year posting about my first day skiing, well no worries, I'm here to stay.
So far I've skied 9 days this season.
5 days at Perfect North
4 days at Caberfea
At the end of last season I bought brand new boots and some used skis, they've been great. They've almost paid for themselves in saved rental savings alone.
I've made some serious gains this season in skills. I can now carve on purpose and hockey stop.
Went to Michigan New Years week, the only week without snow, and skied in some real awful conditions. Didnt ski Saturday or Sunday because it was raining, went Monday for some real Mashed Potato snow, tuesday got cold and it firmed up, wednesday was Dust on crust, which turned into a surprise 7" overnight into excellent conditions for Thursday, because with the humidity, Wednesday night was finally cold enough for making snow. But like always, a bunch of days in a row skiing is always a big level up.
I've now hit all intermediate terrain at Perfect North, and I hit Canyon at Caberfea. I'm hoping to do a trip to West Virginia in February and do my first real Mountains. I'm still working on my angulation, and getting my body downhill. Pole plants really help with it, but the steeper the terrain the harder it is to make myself do it lol.
I think I'll spend the rest of this season building my confidence, and maybe tackle some Black Diamonds when I get more comfortable with the steeper terrain.
My Vantage 75c's are starting to chatter on me, at higher speeds. Will likely take it in for a tune soon and see if that solves the issue or if I need new skis. Im looking at the Maverick 86c or 88Ti. I'm hoping to cut weight this off season, but right now I'm 5' 11" and 260 pounds. Waiting until the ski swap next fall may be the correct option.
Anyways, thanks for reading my rant about this season. What have been up to this season?
