Trump says the Smithsonian focuses too much on 'how bad slavery was'
Donald Trump said Tuesday that he has ordered his attorneys to conduct a review of Smithsonian museums, calling their portrayal of U.S. history too negative and focused too much on “how bad Slavery was.”
Trump said he would subject the museums to “the exact same process” his administration has conducted of universities, with the goal of making the Smithsonian less “woke.”

Trump has literally zero empathy and no morals, and probably thinks it was good for the economy and the slave owners, so it wasn't that bad.
One would have hoped Americans are learning a lesson now, but apparently most of the Trump supporters are not. On the contrary they are absolutely fine with it. Sometimes even when their own families are hit by Trump policies, they still say they support him?!
Half Americans are in a brainwashed cult, and the other half is in danger of slowly going crazy too, due to the insanity that USA is now.
Ironically, slavery hurt the south economically
It made them a single-industry agricultural economy, which only works so long as people want what you're growing. When cotton was new, and fresh, and cool, it worked great for them! When the world started transitioning to a industrial manufacturing/global trade economy, it became a lot less valuable and lot less productive, as machines could do more, cheaper.
Not to mention that the old plantation owners made absolute bank from share cropping after the slaves were liberated. Their economy was actually hampered by slavery, but it was worth it to them since they could futher entrench their racial hierarchy.
Slavery is a terrible idea, who knew
Turns out an educated, happy, and productive populace is far more beneficial
So, i don't think i would use any of those words to describe the population pf freed alaves for the next 100 years, as they were not made equala in society one bit
It's not half. It's less than a third of Americans that support him.
Nearly 37% of Americans didn't vote in the last election, which is arguably worse...
We've been screaming "freedom isn't free" at one another for over a century, and yet that many of us don't care enough to vote.
The only reliable poll is the election, and at the election Trump got just above half the votes.
Every attempt at claiming half the population doesn't support Trump is just green washing the numbers IMO.
It could also be said to be more than two thirds, since everybody that didn't vote, didn't do anything to prevent him from winning.
Saying it's just a third is naive.
See the new Florida standards:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/new-florida-standards-teach-black-people-benefited-slavery-taught-usef-rcna95418
"The Florida State Board of Education’s new standards includes controversial language about how “slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit,” according to a 216-page document about the state’s 2023 standards in social studies, posted by the Florida Department of Education."
Yes they should actually thank us for taking them out of freedom into slavery. /s
It's like when back in Europe some medieval explorers asked the Catholic church if it was immoral to kill the natives in South America, and the conclusion by the church was that it must be OK because it was Gods will, since he had given the white man such superior weapons.
The translation of "woke" is anything I dont like or understand
Actually, this is woke - i.e. the seeking out and understanding of systemic oppression in the past, present, and future. Specifically, it originated in regards to being aware of the oppression of African Americans, so this is about as woke as it gets.
Being woke isn't a bad thing, at least not for anyone with a brain and a heart. In this case, the slave filled past of the US is essential history to anyone trying to understand how the country got where it is, and how to address it for the future. And that's why it's become a target. That's why the bigots of the country and world have worked so hard (and have largly succeeded) in turning the word and concept into a pejorative. Don't let them. Stay woke.
Wow, that's wild, where are the Epstein files?
And he fucked children.
Make one where Trump and pedobear stare at children
They won't release them because the kompromat is a currency that loses its value when exposed.
It's not just that they're hiding the people involved, it's that it's currently being used to blackmail people.
I mean, they should release them. I'm just saying there's even more bad stuff they're doing, on top of it all.
I think it’s time to confiscate their wealth and start their public trials against humanity. I think there will be some examples made
let's do this shit!
I would take this opportunity to create a new installment titled "the benefits of slavery", devoting an entire wing to it, and keeping it completely empty.
In other news, corpulent, spray-tanned rapist half-wit wakes at 0700 and immediately starts shooting his mouth off (again).
Actually, he lost his last wit months ago.
Release the Epstein files and put them in the Smithsonian!
He’s going to make everyone slaves this time, not just black people.
The whole world needs to be very afraid.
Here’s a “fun” exercise: choose your state and decide for yourself how negative we should be when describing chattel slavery!
ALICE DOUGLASS, Age 77 yrs. Oklahoma City, Okla.
I’m sure about the time he gets Hugo Boss to design the new ICE SS uniforms he’ll be telling everyone how the little guy with the tiny mustache was just misunderstood and his stormtroopers were great for the German economy.
They only manufactured, not created the design.
For whatever that's worth.
TIL, thanks. But it doesn’t really change how screwed we are currently.
hugo boss? na they’ll just be gold polo shirts and golf shoes … and don’t forget a mandatory MAGA cap - no discount
I hope he gets reincarnated as a slave girl on Thomas Jefferson's plantation.
The sooner the better.
Admittedly, I don't fully understand how reincarnation is supposed to work... But does it involve time travel?
Some interpretations of reincarnation posit that every person that has ever and will ever exist is the actually same being living through a mortal life over and over again. In that system, "time travel" (if you view it that way) would be essential.
Kurzgesagt did a nice video on the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6fcK_fRYaI
I'm fascinated by the similarity between reincarnation and the one-electron universe hypothesis.
So, I murdered myself millions of times?
Time is just a fourth dimension we can only move one direction in, in this form.
There are (fictional) stories, like "The Egg" for example, in which God or a god can reincarnate you as anyone in any time.
In "The Egg" by Andy weir a man is killed in a car accident and reincarnated as a Chinese peasant girl in the 16th century.
I think Octavia Butler wrote a really shitty story about this?
Wait, reincarnation has time travel? Interesting.
What a dumb motherfucker. I am constantly, relentlessly embarrassed by our Mad King. Where are the Epstein Files!?
Is he going to hire Uncle Ruckus to design it? Maybe Clarence Thomas?
Yeah, let's not focus on reality!
On that note, where are the trump/Epstein files that you promised to release? I want to know not if, but how many kids you raped
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
Sounds like it's all going according to plan.
I look forward to the Smithsonian exhibit explaining how bad the trump regime was.
Atop being so negative about slavery, because we want to bring it back.
Nobody ever talks about the upsides!
It was far worse than you could ever imagine or place in a Museum.
To think he could be making licence plates for free. /s
No need for the /s here. That shithead should be in prison as a 34 count convicted felon. Justice was usurped by a shitty judge that didn't want to make it constitutionally inconvenient.
How many times does the right have to tell us that slavery was good before we just accept it? I dunno, but they aim to find out.
Has Taco Camacho even shuffled through the Smithsonian museums?
My memory of them is that they are huge.
Also, I wonder if they even truly address slavery's awfulness. I have a feeling that snowflakes are just upset they mention it at all...
I wonder if he knows about Arlington
time to take the trash out
Dude. FUCK that guy. This man occupying the president position in this country has got to go.
I mean he has a point, from a business standpoiny soley focusing on exploiting labor it was actually really great. And he wants to MAGA
Solely focussing on exploiting labour was not actually good for business. It prevented industrialization of the south which resulted in the north being richer and more powerful when the war broke out.
Exactly. ‘Capital’ is more than just money. Industrial infrastructure once built is a form of capital. And so is a happy, healthy, educated and engaged populace.
The love of money is the root of all evil. The short sighted plantation pig-fuckers squandered their own futures because they lacked the imagination needed to build a better future, even for their own descendants.
I get what you’re saying but it came off really poorly without the /s. But I don’t /s myself.
To rephrase your point: it wasn’t a bad system of brutal exploitation, human trafficking, rape, murder, and ruthless capitalism; it was actually very good at what it did. Why wouldn’t he celebrate it?
Great for whom?
