I agree fuck Ford, but also check the stats at various times throughout the day. Many gas plants only go on during the day to meet peak demand, and are shutoff in the evening and night. The makeup is much different offpeak.
Fair enough, although quite frankly, we should not be burning any gas. If we had upgraded and expanded our nuclear plants like many groups told us for many, many years, we wouldn't have this problem

One thing to note here, though I researched this a few years ago so it may be dated? I was wondering at the time why there was almost no solar contribution compared to wind, and learned that while utilities operate most wind farms, solar tends to be private operations that sell their power to the grid and are often not included on a site like this which monitors only the utility's contributions.
That's an interesting point. At first I thought it might be incorrect because I see stations named for industry (i.e. Dow) but they appear to be operated by TransAlta.
What is def not shown is on site generation that may or may not feed the grid but does offset usage. Some of that is tracked: I know of a facility that is charged by the utility when they aren't using their on-site capacity. The utility counts it as part of the system capacity (to offset new transmission requirements). On a (very) good day, this facility generates 60% of it's own power.
There is some data out there, somewhere! It would be interesting to see what all these little bits add up to.
