Context: Their "age verification" was that before the game starts, you'd have to answer trivia questions that more or less only adults back then where familiar with. Like "who won the Superbowl in 78" kind of stuff. Therefore, without the internet, basically only retired people can play that game now.

You can also hit a key combo (alt + x) to bypass the questions, but as you mentioned, this was difficult to find out without internet.
Remember everyone, you can just mullvad into a different country while yours passes increasingly facistic laws. Japan is gonna see a lot of traffic.
