Anywhere on Lemmy

Man, I'm bored, guess I'll fuck with tankies.

clears throat

Ukraine didn't start the war.

88

I have been banned from .ml twice for stating that Russia shot down a civilian aircraft over Ukraine.

21

Yesterday was tianmen square day, what do you think about Tianmen square?

(Yughurs are also a nice litmus test)

17

Kinda curious where these 'tankies' are from and their line of thoughts

Which works better? Russophobia or sinophobia? Do you just got full USA nationalist/imperialist or what? It looks like most people here are more into the sinophobia.

Those tankies gonna be so mad! lmao!!! \s

-2

oh so you just hate Russians and Chinese, eh!?

Nope, the US is a police state that funds genocide. You're either against all of the tyranny or none of it, and none of the three are getting any excuse from me.

Fuck Russia, China, Israel and America, and if anyone else wants to flash some fasc, fuck them too.

sh.itjust.works

I just checked your post history, it's crazy how your posts are getting mass downvoted. Keep up the good work my man!

61

I mean, this person is on a personal quest to get everyone to block .ml , I can understand why they might be a bit agitated. Tankies aren't known for their patience and open mindedness.

Man never give that up. I left a WFH job in IT that I wasn't really happy with, but it was fine. Left to a company where everything was better on paper. Now I work 50 hour weeks on average as salary, and don't have time to even use my benefits that actively are better.

Never give it up. Neverrrrrrrr.

Maybe look inti teaching programming. It doesn't pay as much, but it's very rewarding. Doesn't have to be with a university or something. For example, I teach springboot at a private institute. We have bootcamps, but also full, accreditted bachelors. I get to talk about talk about programming a lot, share my knowledge, expand my knowledge, give fun extracurricular talks every once in a while, write new coursework, write fun exercises. Maybe there's something like that near you

2

You programming guys are way smarter than me. Tech writing wouldn't be a bad pivot, but I'm a little worried companies will think genAI will do that work just as well as a writer. I'm actually looking at a pivot to HR, since I like the kind of people focused work and market research stuff they do.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness though. It's very kind of you to take time out and try to assist a stranger. 🙂

I even get downvotes on stuff like "racism is bad".

Ah yes, the classic bLuEmAGa response. Tell me, how are things going so far with Drump. He definitely personally flew there and stopped the genocide in a matter of days and absolutely isn't giving Israel everything they want.

Netanyahu wanted Trump to win, so that should tell you everything you need to know. I'm sure you'll disregard it with something about Biden.

13
lemmy.world

Well, I mean, they couldn't count on us clearly, 8 million less people voted for Harris than for Biden.

And also even more civillians are being killed as a result. Now people like you are acting like we took the moral highroad by choosing pro-genocide over an ineffectual peacebringer.

9
lemmy.world

That wasn't their choice for at least a couple million of them, maybe the full 8 million. Between illegal purging of Democrats and minorities, ballot switching, and ballot stuffing the Repuglicans stole the election.

https://sdvoice.info/trump-lost-vote-suppression-won-here-are-the-numbers/

https://youtu.be/UgIay64Obcs

https://youtu.be/t-yr-Mgkhm0

https://electiontruthalliance.org/eta

First and last links are the data. The middle links are for us stupid people that need to be told how to read the data in the last link.

0

Fair, but the composite polling predicted the Democrats loss over a year before the election, and 8 million is a lot of fucking votes to chalk up as unfairness.

The average person was saying stuff like "the Economy is failing, we need to change course" and "Genocide Joe, Let's Go Brandon". Polls among almost every demographic expressed strong concern over Biden's cognitive stability.

Yea no, he's not. Anybody who starts becoming a thorn in the side of Lemmy tankies starts having perfectly innocuous posts and comments getting downvoted

You're literally on a post about Tankies making three whole instances full of fake users to mass downvote me because I speak out and collect evidence against them

And there are so many others before me with similar stories.

LMAO, yea sure buddy. Even though they were doing something from the top 5 shit things you could do to the Lemmy-verse, they're "not the problem" lolol

5
Maevereply
kbin.earth

Everytime I checked downvotes on anyone's posts, they came from .world. And the instances referenced were here before .world, since the admins are the ones who, checks notes, created Lemmy.

-4

LMAO, if you're going to be a Tankie/Tankie apologist at least pay attention. The meme isn't about the Tankie Triad, it's about 3 just a few days old instances. Which you would know if you'd bother to follow the context link and put in some effort.

7
lemmy.world

I've seen admins claim a handful of users/ipaddresses are responsible for 90% of all downvotes and it was not World.

Although, World is a very active and popular instance for being vanilla but also defederating from Hex and Grad.

5

Yeah the last decade has been pretty good evidence that people pretending to be CHUDs online are CHUDs IRL

5
lemmy.world

I'd say about 70% of my comments have exactly 1 or 2 downvotes. Just the other day I said "lmao, nice" on a post about the IRS open-sourcing tax software and it got a downvote.

10
explodiclereply
sh.itjust.works

You're a prolific poster. It's possible they just recognize your username and vote based on their opinion of you alone, without reading each post.

7

That's likely what's at work with these things. I even got a few chronic haters that downvote just about everything I write, even when it's calling out racism. They'll downvote criticism of Nazis in the effort, even.

5

Just the other day I said “lmao, nice” on a post about the IRS open-sourcing tax software and it got a downvote.

Not a tankie, but maybe people just downvote that kind of low effort spam.

lemmy.world

I've just had .ml blocked for a long time and life's been good. I would prefer defederation. If put democratically, I'm sure that's what would be voted for as well.

25

Yeah me too. There's very little value to justify keeping them in my feeds. As soon as there is a decent alternative to lemmy I'm leaving.

Thanks

13

I highly recommend. russia is a state of insane.

7

It is just defederated everywhere, so most don't see their posts anymore.

6

It sort of is, I think the same people run it, but its also a seperate domain where they take the masks off.

3
Omegareply
discuss.online

No, it's just new instances to easily create accounts in (why would those three be new when they're literally older than .world?)

4

Is it to like muddy the waters? I can make 500 accounts on my instance if I wanted to?

3
lemy.lol

lol

furthermore: lmao

It will never not be funny to me that some people are so chronically online they think everyone else gives as much of a fuck about made up internet points as they do, and more, will go to such an extraordinary effort on a site which doesn't have cumulative karma like reddit did. which they are either too stupid to realize or too angry to care. these guys not only need to touch grass, they need to go disappear into the woods and become one with nature for a few weeks.

lastly, ow, fuck, my sides!

21
lemmy.world

Upvotes and downvotes are made up internet points that decide sorting in the feeds.

It might not mean much if your opinion is popular or unpopular but when some individual loser wants to make you unseen that feels like a problem.

6
archonetreply
lemy.lol

oh yeah, I'll bet OP feels very unseen right now, with their nearly 500 net upvotes and ~70 comments on this post.

Point being, said loser has failed miserably to do anything other than make themselves look more like a loser.

3
lemmy.world

Since your instance or app doesnt show downvotes, it currently has 627 upvotes and 77 Downvotes. When I first came across it they had 250 to 55.

But if you checked his context link you would see that they literally made brand new instances just to downvote this person for collecting evidence on their shittiness.

2

you apparently missed the word "net" in my comment. It does show downvotes on my app/instance. Ergo, his posts are still reaching people just fine, because again he has several hundred net upvotes, and many comments, meaning whoever was trying to limit his visibility has failed.

4
cm0002reply
lemmy.world

I wish lol, yea world did defederate with the rest of the triad, but .ml is generally left because

Its the dev instance and they run official Lemmy dev/support comms from there, they still have a few big comms and some of the only niche comms (both issues I aim to address through cross-posting) and they "keep the mask on" more and keep things subtle to avoid larger defed movements

10

Unfortunately, I'm getting to the point where I suspect a fork or alternate compatible platform may be needed (rather than just nice to have).

1
bdonvrreply
thelemmy.club

Generally it's because they have their hatred of .ml as the driving force of half their free time. It's weird and off-putting.

-6

Not sure about half their free time, but it does seem that anti-.ml sentiment is the reason, yes.

3

The people who are too stupid or incompetent to fact check basic things.

Those without critical thinking skills

8

It kind of affects all of us if people (barely) are manipulating the feeds in broad daylight.

3
lemmy.world

I’m new here and still grasping the way the fediverse works.

Is this basically saying 3 user accounts were made for the mass downvoting or what’s happening?

7

Instances are more like servers or domains. Your instance is lemmy.world. We can see votes from individual users because votes federate across instances, (like if you, on lemmy.world, were to vote on my instance, lemmy.dbzer0).

In order for that federation to happen, the votes must be public. This prevents a rogue instance from just lying and telling other instances “yeah all my shit is super upvoted” and pushing itself to the top, or inversely pushing others down by spoofing downvotes. It also allows instances to properly block banned users; If I’m banned from a community/instance, my individual votes shouldn’t count towards it. So anyone with the know-how can inspect which individual users have voted on posts, and how they have voted.

Someone spun up three entire instances and mass created dozens of accounts on each, just to mass downvote. It’s just blatant vote manipulation, and is why the admin stepped in to defederate (stop sending info back and forth) from the rogue instances.

You see stuff like that occasionally from the “tankie triad” instances, (lemmy.ml, hexbear.net, and lemmygrad) but they’re usually more subtle about it to avoid instantly getting defederated.

22

We can see votes from individual users because votes to federate across instances, (like if you, on lemmy.world, were to vote on my instance, lemmy.dbzer0). Someone spun up three entire instances and mass created dozens of accounts on each, just to mass downvote.

So where can we see this?

1
sh.itjust.works

Little bit more.

Someone made 3 servers, then a bunch of accounts on those servers, then used all of those accounts to downvote.

Allegedly because I ain't got the time to manually verify that myself.

18

Servers, not users. Though each server would have users.

Although I don't think they're bots like the post is implying. OP just spends a lot of time annoying them.

12

Edit: I was wrong below and am corrected in replies to this comment.

The moniker Tankie is a reference to the Tiananmen Square Massacre because of their minimalizing or outright denials regarding the incident.

8

WHATABOUT.

Like everything from the soviet union, whstaboutism is shit but tankies love it.

7

Funny how you guys like to pretend that you are for denazification but hate it when people point out that Stalin was Hitler's greatest collaborator until the meth head betrayed him. Or that the USSR engaged in naked imperialism (and have to redefine imperialism to specifically omit countries that claim to be communist from the classification for reasons). Or when it's pointed out that violent, aggressive expansionism isn't exactly pro-prolitariat - it wasn't in 2020, or 2014, or 1939. Nor was it particularly pro-prolitariat when they murdered their anarchist allies once the White Army was defeated so as to prevent self-rule and centralize imperial power in Moscow.

4

No, it was coined for those who supported the soviet invasions of Hungary and czechoslovakia in 1956 and 1968.

13

So, you're going to just declare the admins of multiple instances just lying about things then?
