English is not my main language so this was a significant and funny "A-ha!" moment for me.

3rd rock from the sun did a whole episode on this, starring the woman who played Roseannes sister as Dick's new love interest.
25 years later, and I still pronounce legume the way they did in that episode as I recite this fact.
If you can find some that are not roasted, this actually becomes quite obvious. They do taste a lot like peas.
