What do you mean by that? You could just start a community and for each group you make a single permanent post. Then the comment section of each of those posts would be the group chat.

Like when I go on soul seek chatrooms that’s all it is now. Ages ago they used to be constant discussion and now it’s like one person will say slurs once every day or two and then just nothing
Try Matrix or Revolt maybe? Lemmy doesn't seem to be a chat platform by design
also The Other Place tried it, all it did was attract spam bots or people spamming onlyfans promo
