Cause he doesn't check them ever and posts frequently in the right communities lol

10

A bit of this, but also the desktop web UI doesn't mark them as read when you click on the permalink. You need to explicitly mark them as read and I'm too lazy to do that 😬

dark mode on OLEDs, light mode with near-minimum brightness everywhere else (except discord because somehow their light mode is just completely fucked up) because astigmatism

I haven't used dark mode since it was the only option on the Apple II.

Black and green. What a combination of default colors.

It's nothing surprising to me. This is what I assume Reddit was like before heavy moderation of subs many years ago, and what gets on the front page.

/r/trees used to be one of the most popular subreddits and used to frequently show up on /r/all (the 'frontpage' back then), followed by GoneWild communities iirc (at least that's how it felt like, I mean Spez was a moderator for Jailbait after all) I think Lemmy just doesn't hide it and so it's easier for people to click on and such.

22
Duchessreply
yiffit.net

what the fuck, spez was a moderator for jailbait?? on the /u/spez account or what?

5
lemmy.world

You used to be able to assign mod position to a user without them having to accept it on reddit.

4
Duchessreply
yiffit.net

ah okay, so there's no proof he actually participated in the community?

4
lemmy.world

The reddit admins did give violentacrez, the top mod of r/jailbait and other porn subreddits, a special "pimp daddy" award, so they are all still really gross people, but I just think it's important to criticize them for what they are actually responsible for.

Lol, I'm pretty sure porn drives almost every new innovation in entertainment technology.

There are only two reasons something is successful. 1: It can be used for military things, 2: It can be used for porn.

How y'all finding porn on here? I'm still just looking at front page. No idea how to look anything up on purpose.

Or so my friend tells me.

Mostly on the lemmynsfw.com instance

8

Which I've had to block so any communities from because this is my main account

3
lemmy.ml

Me, on lemmy.ml where the only trending communities are dead communities with 3 members created 2 years ago:

48
lemmy.world

Let me guess:

The first one is „God is dead“ by admin „K_Marx“

The second one is: „Marx is dead“ by admin „God“

But can’t you be on lemmy.ml and follow all the interesting communities from other instances (which might be harder to find, though)?

18
frippareply
lemmy.ml

The only instances that are blocked are porn ones, that's a thing I don't miss from reddit tbh, but the swear filter is really dumb. And doesn't really fucking filters swears, but it's really dumb regardless, since it's neither opt-in nor opt-out, it's just there.

14
lemmy.world

This almost seems like if the “god fraction“ has won…

I know that they had a “no porn” rule, but “no swearing” is new to me. Surely it will be a healthy family-friendly community.

I have no issue with some occasional nudes in my timeline. I could blur or filter it, if I would want to avoid this.

But porn in the web for me is an important part of the “freedom of expression”, therefore I find it anachronistic if some community tries to block / ban this.

8
abbotsburyreply
lemmy.world

Sure, but porn is so easily available that one only needs to explicitly look for it. Meanwhile there was a deluge of fetish communities appearing that every user had to block individually if they didn't want 10 fart fetish posts on their timeline, so it was a quality of life improvement to block those communities on the server level.

2
lemmy.world

Of course you can get anything online if you go for it. But this kind of occasional nudes in my “all” timeline reminds me of the old Reddit days - and is quite nice as long as it doesn’t become too much.

So far I’ve never seen any fart-fetish community / post in my timeline tbh.

1

Well it wasn't really occasional at the start when lots of people started creating new communities, every day there would be a bunch of new posts from new communities appearing in All

before we had defederated from the porn server, I had blocked

-Diaper porn

-Gone wild

-One just called "porn"

-Hentai

-Sissy chastity

-huge boobs

-Celebs

-Yiff (ifkyk)

-Ass

-Anal

-General NSFW

-Femboys

-Lewd Games

-Rule34

-AsiansGoneWild

-Furry Chat

-Gay furry porn

-Furry Videos

-Petplay Yiff

-feet

-sapphic hentai

-sapphic art

-Sissies

-Hentai - BDSM

-GoneMild

-Grool

-GoneMildPlus

-Trans Hydro Hotties

-Blowjob

and at some point it's like, could we make porn opt-in instead of playing whack a mole with every niche fetish? Yeah there's an NSFW option, but that's more for hiding the images themselves, not ignoring the communities or servers.

I thought that was an exchange between Nietzsche and God, or it used to be. Anyway, I was unaware that the double low-9 quotation mark was even a thing so thanks for that.

9
lemmy.world

You are absolutely right, it was Nietzsche. I took Marx because of the tankies / commies hanging out on lemmy.ml.

What is a „double low-9 quotation mark“?

2

Ah, ok. It’s just a german keyboard. When I don’t change my language settings before I start typing it uses the german-style quotation marks.

These people are pioneers in 3D animation. I once saw one of them animate a video of D.VA being spit-roasted with nothing but a potato and a box of thumbtacks

58
reddthat.com

For real though. I swear, some of those animations are more detailed and well-animated then anything Pixar could produce.

41

Didn't they induce actual improvements to Blender code so that they could create these animations more easily and without having to use ruinously priced industry software?

I kind of miss those old Usenet days. Being 16 and waiting most of the night for a picture to load was great.

Back when I made sure to download the progressive JPEG, because loading single line top to bottom was hell. Unless there was a chance that the phone would be picked up, then I wanted regular JPEG, because then when I lost connection I still would have most of a picture.

You never knew what you were going to get.

10

In the early 90s, when I was a teen, I accessed the internet through the computer lab, downloaded tons of porn at a higher rate, uploaded the pics to local BBSes, got a huge ratio, downloaded tons of pirated games and had lots of porn. I was a genius back then. Not so much now.

3

Some days it would take ten whole minutes to download a handcrafted ascii art boob.

4

You get a gone wild! You get a gone wild! Everyone gets a gone wild!

8

For a second I thought there was one that might be interesting but then I realized I had misread and "Jack Russels Gone Wild" was not in the list.

"African-Americans Gone Wild" or "People of Color Gone Wild " just don't seem to have the same ring to it, I guess. I'm pretty sure almost any other term you might use would be frowned upon.

3
programming.dev

Not all black people are African-American or even African or American, you know? I'd be way more irritated if someone called me African-American than black, since one of these is true and the other simply isn't.

7

Yeah, that’s why I added the “People of Color Gone Wild”, since the other isn’t really all-inclusive. Race is so weird to talk about in the US though, it’s like no matter how you talk about it as a white person, you’re stepping on somebody’s toes somewhere. It’s like we can’t even discuss anything without the terminology itself becoming an issue, which just sort of derails any other conversations you might be having. I get why the topic is necessary in some cases, but it feels like it needlessly complicated things at times.

Ebony, or GoneWildColor as the existing reddit community was already named.

1
Pyroreply
lemmy.world

Calling black people "ebony" is like calling white people "porcelain". It's romanticising their skin colour. It may make sense for things like porn, but please don't refer to any group with that sort of name in a normal context. It's incredibly weird.

13
pyffreply
lemmynsfw.com

Exactly right, but the context being discussed is porn.

3
Pyroreply
lemmy.world

Yes, but you've also said that referring to people as "black" is dehumanising, and then you were asked what word you'd use instead.
At this moment it isn't unreasonable to think the context has changed from porn community titles to your personal thoughts on how to refer to a specific ethnic group in any situation.
That's how I (and I assume many others) read the situation.

3

Yes, but you’ve also said that referring to people as “black” is dehumanising

No. Myself, and the commenter who was being responded to, said that referring to Black people as "blacks" is dehumanizing, which it is, and the context being asked for was an alternative term for an NSFW community. Hopefully that clarifies the issue.

3

I believe you'll find that it's Ebony and Ivory. .... Side by side in perfect harmony

2
lemmy.world

Pretty sure they prefer black like native Americans prefer Indians. Can we call people white? I've never heard anyone wants to be called ebony. I only know the term ebony from porn

2
pyffreply
lemmynsfw.com

"Pretty sure they"...

Nope, I'll stop you right there. And the context is porn. Note, again, the term being discussed is not Black, which is perfectly kosher, but referring to Black people as "blacks", which is considered dehumanizing.

As for alternatives, the existing PoC-run reddit communities are called Ebony, GoneWildColor, GWBlackGirls, etc. Hopefully that gives you some insight.

6
lemmy.world

Yeah because the majority of blacks use reddit and ebony porn sites. So do you call them ebonies?

-2
pyffreply
lemmynsfw.com

Not exactly sure what you're asking, but no, collective nouns aren't generally pluralized in English, nor is the term appropriate outside of a porn context. Are you a native English speaker?

2

Blacks and whites. Indians and Asians. Look, it's plural. Add an S, guess it's dehumanizing? I think the term daddy is dehumanizing. Please, only use dad. Do not add another dy.
