What are they even holding him on right now? Why is he still in custody? The administration already said they don't have charges to bring, and he's on a green card. This seems open and shut?

Does anyone know where he is for sure? Disappearing anyone let alone a legal resident is fucking insane.

Lawyers have been in contact with him and have confirmed he's held in Louisiana, 1000 miles from home. But his lawyers are also complaining the distance is making it impossible to defend him, as they are unable to have unmonitored conversations.

If this were normal times, I'd say Khalil should start talking with an accountant to make sure he can retire on the fat payout coming his way, but we'll see how much rule of law matters as this evolves.

Unfortunately the dicktator doesn't believe in laws. I fear this is only the beginning of people being captured and shipped away. Trump is playing with fire here.

According to the department of homeland security he "led activities aligned to Hamas, a designated terrorist organization" which isn't a charge, and also encompasses any activism for Palestinians. Hamas wants doctors in gaza to heal people, so I guess ICE can now dissappear anyone working for doctors without borders.

Remember to write your congress person about this if you live in the u.s. I think this is a border line issue that if we make enough if a stink they'll join the banwagon.

TFW when your rep already signed the letter so there's nothing else you can do

(except calling your Senators, I guess)

That album cover haha. Holy shit, that might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.

She signed a separate letter that was less scathing and left out criticism of Israel.

31

Probably the right move.

The point is not “you should agree with him”.

The point is “you shouldn’t deport people you disagree with”.

MAGA would much rather argue about the former if you let them sidestep the latter.

I have to wonder if she's received threats from them or affiliate groups since she rejected their "donations" a while back.

As an Illinoisan, I'm very proud to see one of our reps on this list.

a lot of them

3 signed that separate letter, AOC, a state assembly member and a ny city council member, probably because it left out criticism of Israel and they're in New York, not because it was put out quickly.

The article mentions others like AOC who have separetely called out this blatant violation of free speech, but the point still stands, the vast majority of democrats are silent on this and that is horrible.

Rashida Thalib low-key wanted Trump to win lol. Her sister was the president of the uncommitted movement, which called for liberals to sit out in 2024 or vote for Jill Stein. She herself refused to endorse Harris.

That's not how uncommitted worked. They were focused on the primaries. After Harris was the nominee, they said don't sit out, don't vote third party, and don't vote Trump. They didn't specifically say to vote Harris, but there's only one logical outcome left from that combination.

11

I don't think so. I've talked to a number of my Muslim friends and it's a shit sandwich. I also really like John Oliver's take. Paraphrasing horribly:

Imagine that someone you love was killed by the guns, missiles, and artillery sold by the current administration. Then imagine being asked if you would vote for them. They are (were) in an impossible situation. One that is not hypothetical to their lives. You can't ignore that. But as distasteful as that image is, we have an election and we must choose.

This wasn't politics for the many Palestinians we have here in the states. It was literally life or death.

The "undecided"s in this camp didn't bother me. It's those who had nothing to lose except time that didn't vote that bothered me.
