U.S. EO to take all power under office of President
Think this is effectively where the US stops pretending democracy is still a thing

This is not about power. It’s about obscuring his actions by circumventing legislation, while attempting to keep Congress’s hands clean. It’s the same reason the ‘newly headless’ DOGE is the office taking action.
An executive order can be challenged by Congress or declared unconstitutional by the courts. Until then, our entire government is complicit is his actions.

This is bad and a power grab but it's not the end. We can still beat fascism. We have to go to the streets.
Fascism can always be beaten, it's just a matter of how hard it will be to beat, and how many people will support said fascism, and how many people are willing to fight it
So far the US is letting it get really fucking bad and people simply don't seem to care at all.
There are thousands of protesters. Thousands. Sometimes even hundreds, wow wow wow...
WHERE ARE THE MILLIONS OF PROTESTERS SHUTTING DOWN THE COUNTRY?
I just don't get it, I really don't. These are the same brain wheezers that keep on going about bringing democracy to Afghanistan (in the form of bombs, of course, the American way) yet when their president declares himself king, crickets and cheers
A general strike or boycott would be a good beginning? It seems like it would be best to get organized using real identities somehow but they would just use that as a list. I am thinking to start we need to organize on a secure, encrypted platform. I am not well versed in that kind of stuff though.
No, we can't beat it. It is the end, for the next decade or three. We're watching history play out, from the wrong end, as has happened many, many times. You might as well march and protest against the river's flow.
Best you can do is hunker down, figure out the best play for you and your family. Get armed, learn and train, stockpile rice and corn and ammo, figure out what medicine(s) you need, learn to grow things, find a place to run to when it gets hot.
I can already hear the cries from those that didn't do fare well in history class: "deFeAtiSt!"
If one doesn't like my take, you are free to get on the trains. Used to say I'd fight for ya', not anymore, too close to home to do anything but protect my own.
This is not what "learning from history" means. The future is not set in stone, this is just copium.
The order is contradicted by itself.
So, if I'm reading this correctly:
By his own decree; The President has supreme power over every single government office, and has the power to unilaterally change/create/remove all of them at will with no oversite.
Any/all federal publications or regulatory actions must be approved by the:
No oversite, no external regulatory bodies, no checks and balances; just what Trump says goes....
Yes, I got to the same just by reading the tweet. Imagine voting for a king in the 21st century. What a fucking to be alive.
The EO is literally just reaffirming the constitution, that the executive branch is under the president.
I'm so tired of these clear lies.
Yeah, because they're in the executive branch. They always have been.
And then there was silence
The Federal Election Commission was not under Presidential rule prior to their executive order. It would be ridiculous for an elected position to control the election commission for obvious reasons of election tampering potential.
This might seem to be a reaffirmation of the constitution at a passing glance, but most certainly is more sinister if you dig into the statues and governmental overseeing bodies being affected by this claim.
Ah, a Putin shlurper extraordinaire
If you could find a single comment where I'm supporting Putin, I'd be amazed
So you're saying you're actually not conservative?
God the political discourse on lemmy has fallen off a cliff in terms of quality
Looks like you're owning up to being conservative. Thanks for your input, rando
I am a conservative because I criticized you? You learn something new every day
You're mad that I made a pretty safe assumption about conservatives.
I am conservative.
Okay. Well show me I'm wrong and tell us your stance on Putin and specifically the war in Ukraine.
Putin is a tyrant, and Russia invaded Ukraine. Ukraine should keep all their territory, and Russia should pay for all Ukraine's wartime debts.
Thanks for that response. I apologize for my assumption and I'm happy I'm wrong. With this said, how do you feel Trump is handling Putin currently?
Sure, they just wrote an EO for no reason whatsoever. Oh boy, I can't wait for the EO to remind everyone that we live in the northern hemisphere.
