Today I got hate speech in my inbox

So the code hosting site Codeberg has been experiencing attacks by far right organizations for a bit now. Recently, the attacks escalated when someone created a repo and then mentioned a bunch of usernames in bulk. The result was that people includong myself received email notifications containing hate speech.

Codeberg did apologize but it really isn't their fault https://blog.codeberg.org/we-stay-strong-against-hate-and-hatred.html

i got this too, really interested in what the actual backstory is, what projects were being targeted. but good for the codeberg team for standing up and calling this stuff out by name in the blog post. based.

I don't know specifically what the content of the repo was. I just got a mail with hundred mentions from the repo truth/truth, Issue 777 called " balls". It was already gone when I had the time to look it up.

Post the hate speech. Was it some notification? How did it happen? MR or something?

Apparently my account is too new to upload images

But I got an email that somebody had tagged me in an issue called “N****R BALLS”

Thanks, I understand better. It's difficult to block accounts posting crap on issues and MRs using their "legit" account. It reminds me that I wanted to subscribe to the Codeberg association and give them money. Now is the time to do this.

Certainly more than mildly infuriating but anyone in the fediverse could ping your handle on some racist tirade and if you setup to recieve email notifications you will get them in your inbox. Sounds like it would be great if codeberg had a setting to ignore mentions not in repos you are subscribed to or something (have not used codeberg and no idea what the options are).

Someone spent time, either seriously or to troll on an open code platform. How depressing of a life that must be in either case

You reached the end
